[What is the best car for £2500 or less?](
Posted by on 14 November, 2019
I'm picking out a car for a friend and would be interested to know what would be a good hatch/saloon for a learner driver at under £2500? Preferably a diesel one as he intends on using it for a long commute.

[Should I avoid a used campervan that has eight previous owners?](
Posted by on 13 November, 2019
What should I be looking out for when buying a Volkswagen T5 camper with 116,000 miles on the clock? It has eight previous owners and very little MoT and service history. The body is very good condition, it just makes me wonder why so many owners, is it just best to leave alone? It's up for £15,000.

[I bought a used car described as having one previous owner - but the V5C says two former keepers?](
Posted by on 13 November, 2019
I went to view a secondhand car that was described by the dealer (in bold capital letters) as "1 Previous Owner". I was looking for a one-owner car. At the time of viewing the salesman told me the car had one previous owner. He did not show me the log book. I put a deposit of £200 down. When I checked later I found the car had at least two previous owners. I asked for my money back which they have refused, saying in an email (quote) "Our advert says one previous owner so two owners in total". Is this fair? Surely the original description is most misleading?

[I recently bought a car advertised as one previous owner - but the V5C says two former keepers?](
Posted by on 13 November, 2019
I recently bought a car from a dealer that said one owner from new and the vehicle check said one owner from new. However, now I have received the V5C it shows "no of former keepers 2" on the front? Should this be a worry and have I been lied to?

[I recently had a hip replacement - when can I resume driving?](
Posted by on 13 November, 2019
Five weeks ago I had a total hip replacement and would like to know the rules governing when I can resume driving? Iâve searched online and asked a doctor and physiotherapist but no one seems to be sure. Some say four weeks, some six weeks and others when signed off by the surgeon. Also are there any requirements to inform my motor insurance company and the DVLA?

[What's the best adhesive to fit a rubber seal on a gearbox cover?](
Posted by on 13 November, 2019
I have Triumph Vitesse Convertible 2L Mk2. I have had to remove the rubber seal on the gearbox cover due to old age and have obtained the new rubber seal but it needs to be glued to the cover. It is the original and made of a fibrous material. What is the best adhesive bearing in mind the location near to heat-generating bits and possible water/stone damage?

[Why does my insurance insist I have a tracking device fitted?](
Posted by on 12 November, 2019
I've just switched to a new insurer and in the small print it states: "We will NOT pay a claim if your car is stolen and any tracking device, which we insist is fitted, has not been set or is not in full working order". I assume this actually means IF we have insisted on a tracking device, rather than that I'm not covered unless I have one fitted. I'd be grateful for advice.

[Why won't my SLK unlock?](
Posted by on 12 November, 2019
My Mercedes SLK 250 won't unlock. Last Sunday it sat on my drive during very heavy rain and hasn't let anyone in since. The key raises the button but the car remains locked. Both keys have been tested. I've tried various tips from local experts and everyone is baffled (eg giving it five secs plus with the key held close to the handle to send an infra red signal). A mechanic jacked the front up and declared there was life in the battery. I'm about to get it spec lifted to the main Merc deal which my brilliant local garage said was probably best in case they failed to solve the problem. I reckon its to do with water ingress. This might be irrelevant but a few times the aircon hasn't switched on which I also think is after heavy rain. It makes me wonder if some filter is sodden or unseen gutter blocked and could this now be causing the car to lock down?

[How do I obtain a V5C for a car that's a Cat S write off?](
Posted by on 12 November, 2019
I am buying a Mk2 Volkswagen Golf GTI 16 valve from a friend which has light structural damage and has been written off as Category S. But is very repairable according to a local repair specialist. The writing-off insurance company has asked the registered keeper for the V5C. Will it be reissued to the registered keeper amended to the write-off Category S? Or will I have to apply for one when the vehicle is repaired and inspected?
