[Can you recommend a fun to drive, economical, small car for £10k?](
Posted by on 16 August, 2019
I've had a SEAT Leon for the last four years: zero road tax and 60+ to the gallon but the visibility is dreadful and I cannot get out of the car without getting my legs/trousers dirty or wet because of the sill. Can you suggest a smaller, but still economical, car that is fun to drive. I'm looking to spend £10k for a used car.

[How do I protect my paintwork from bird droppings?](
Posted by on 16 August, 2019
What is the best car polish or wax to protect my car's metallic paintwork from the dreaded bird droppings? I don't know what the pigeons around here eat but it is attacking the paintwork.

[How do I remove road tar from paintwork?](
Posted by on 16 August, 2019
After washing my car I noticed a few black dots on the offside rear wheel arch. I think that itâs road tar as the main road near where I live was resurfaced last week. Whatâs the best product to remove it without damaging the paintwork? A friend suggested Zippo lighter fuel but I donât know whether thatâs a good idea.

I have a 68-plate Ford Transit Custom. The gear indicator on the dash (which tells you when to change gears) has stopped working. Iâve phoned my fleet team and they have said itâs a setting I need to change but Iâm not convinced. Any idea what it could be?

[Honest driver with 25-years no claims - why are my premiums so expensive?](
Posted by on 15 August, 2019
My renewal has come up, and I have been quoted £400 fully comp, I have clean license of 25 years, never had an accident in my life except a puncture. And yet my sister has been driving less time than me has received a renewal of £300 despite taking sabbatical from driving for 2 years and had the odd accident which was not her fault. We both live in same post code and have sedate occupations, why the wild discrepancies in the quotes?

[What's the best electric van for towing?](
Posted by on 15 August, 2019
I need a three-seater van that can pull a horsebox. My husband wants to go fully electric, but most small vans simply don't have the power to pull a loaded trailer. Any ideas?

[Can you recommend a ULEZ-compliant van that will fit our bicycles?](
Posted by on 15 August, 2019
We have a 2008 Citroen Berlingo Mulispace, which is perfect for putting bikes in without taking off the wheels, but it now doesn't comply with the London emission standards. The newer Berlingo is bulkier. Are there other models with the sort of headroom at the back as our current car without being bigger?

[What's a good Suzuki SX4 equivalent for coping with narrow and winding roads?](
Posted by on 15 August, 2019
I'm living in Cumbria; windy roads, mountain passes, narrow lanes and lots of potholes. My Suzuki SX4 is a brilliant 4WD car. However, it is not made anymore. What would be a similar car to look at for a suitable replacement? I'm looking for a car which is not too wide (for those narrow lanes) really high clearance, (for tracks and occasional off-road) and, if possible, 4WD capability too. I don't need fancy, I need practical.

[Is it legal to test drive a car with no MoT if it's on trade plates?](
Posted by on 15 August, 2019
I've seen a car I like with a dealer, however, the MoT expired earlier this month. I've raised this with the dealer who has said they will put a year's MoT on it once it has sold, but that I can test drive it without an MoT because he has trade plates. Is this legal?

[Can I drive a car in the US on my UK insurance?](

I'm going to the U.S. for a couple of weeks and a relative has said I can use their car while I'm there. How do I make sure I'm fully insured while using it? Can I drive on their insurance or will my own comprehensive insurance on my U.K. car cover me?

[Above 65mph the brakes on our car are very resistant when being pressed - what's the problem?](
Posted by on 14 August, 2019
My son has a Mitsubishi Lancer which appears to run very well. However above 65mph the brakes seem to be very resistant when being pressed and need extra foot pressure, this can sometimes result in a sudden swerve one way. Below 65mph the brakes operate normally. When exceeding 70mph for a minute or two the ABS warning light appears on the dash panel. Once illuminated the car brakes correctly as if there is no problem. Can you suggest what the problem might be?

[If I'm on a smart motorway and my car starts to break down, can I pull over into a lane that's already marked with a red X?](
Posted by on 14 August, 2019
Let's say, hypothetically, lanes one and two of a four-lane smart motorway have large red crosses on them so you are travelling in lane three. A problem then occurs with your car so you need to stop. Are you allowed to pull over into lanes one or two, or do you stop in lane three and reduce the number of running lanes even further?

[I think I got caught running a red light, can I appeal based on not seeing the traffic lights?](
Posted by on 14 August, 2019
I was driving into London on a section of road with three lanes when the traffic bunched up just before a set of lights. There was a slow moving London Bus on my left, completely hiding the traffic light, and on the right-hand lane, a large stationary van turning right which covered the other traffic light. There was no second set of lights on the other side of the junction. I stayed in my lane and crossed the junction and was aware of a series of flashes in my rear view mirror. I believe I may have triggered the red light camera on that junction. It was only two days ago and so I do not yet know. Would I have any defence against the charge if I could demonstrate I was completely unable to see the lights and stopping suddenly with traffic moving either side and behind me would have been dangerous?

[How much is a 1997 Land Rover Defender worth?](

I'm looking into buying a Land Rover Defender 100 Hi-Cap that I've seen. It's 1996/1997, 100,000 miles on the clock and they believe it has had an engine rebuild at some point. It has a 300TDI engine in. It's a 2.5L Turbo Diesel. What do you think I should pay for it?
