Netflix's Reed Hastings Calls on Joe Biden to "Step Aside" ►Going public. Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings has become one of the first big Democratic Party megadonors to call on President Joe Biden to step down ahead of the 2024 presidential election. Hastings, in an email to the NYT, said that "Biden needs to step aside to allow a vigorous Democratic leader to beat Trump and keep us safe and prosperous." Hastings’ comments join a growing number of outspoken Dem supporters calling for Biden to step down, agitated by the president’s performance during last week’s debate. [The story.]( —Denied. The producers of Rust may have to forgo a robust economic incentive as they try to sell the film to distributors and fulfill financial obligations to the immediate family of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins who was fatally shot by Alec {NAME} in 2021. New Mexico tax authorities denied an application this spring by Rust Movie Productions for incentives worth as much as $1.6m. A late July deadline for producers to appeal the decision is approaching. {NAME} is scheduled to go on trial starting next week on an involuntary manslaughter charge in Hutchins’ death. CBS and Paramount Global are facing a discrimination lawsuit from former anchor Jeff Vaughn, who accuses his ex-employers of implementing policies that favor the hiring of individuals from certain groups and firing older, white, heterosexual men. Vaughn, in a lawsuit filed on Monday and backed by a conservative group founded by Trump adviser Stephen Miller, says he was replaced in 2022 by a younger, minority news anchor. Gary writes that Samaha has previously been found liable for business fraud, accused of unsafely operating local venues, and has been pursued for production-related grievances by several major entertainment unions. Kevin Spacey will be honored with Italy’s Nations Award for Lifetime Achievement at a special gala in the historic southern Sicilian town of Taormina. The honor comes as the two-time Oscar-winner continues to battle multiple allegations of sexual misconduct against him. Spacey has always denied all criminal charges. French prosecutors have requested rape charges be brought against director Benoît Jacquot in connection to assault allegations made by actresses Isild Le Besco and Julia Roy. Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit, has previously been the largest shareholder of the team. If the investment from Bay and Iger finalizes, the team will have a valuation of more than $300m, making it the highest valued women’s soccer club. Ellen DeGeneres canceled four of her Ellen’s Last Stand … Up comedy shows this week after beginning her tour in June. THR's [Pamela McClintock]( writes that Deadpool & Wolverine — the third outing in the celebrated superhero franchise starring Ryan Reynolds — is tracking to open to at least $160m to $165m domestically over the July 26-28 weekend, with plenty of upside. That would be the best start of the year to date, as well as the biggest launch ever for an R-rated title. It would also be a needed boost for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the superhero genre in general. [The box office report.]( —Strong start.
