We're going off the beaten path – in some cases, way off – with an Alaska Project Speedy, a Cartier diver and a superfast Zenith.͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌ ͏ ‌   [STORIES]( [SHOP]( [SELL OR TRADE]( [LIMITED EDITIONS]( [Hodinkee Pre-Owned Picks]( [Pre-Owned Picks: Hidden Gems In The Hodinkee Shop]( [Look, we love a Daytona. We'd be lying if we said we didn't get a thrill every time someone looks at our wrists and says "What is that?"]( [In this spirit of discovery, we've scoured the Hodinkee Shop to bring you the following group of watches that we think are interesting and stand out from the crowd.]( [BY MARK HACKMAN]( [READ THE SHOP JOURNAL]( LIMITED TIME OFFER: ENDING TONIGHT [Shop Pre-Owned]( FEATURED ON THIS WEEK'S PRE-OWNED PICKS [Image of OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Alaska Project]( [OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Alaska Project]( All the Speedmasters out there can lead to a bit of a choice paradox. A lot of them are a lot alike. But there's nothing like the Alaska Project – and this one comes as a full set with box and papers. [Cartier Calibre de Cartier Diver]( Sport watches are hardly Cartier's bread and butter, but here we are with an in-house movement powered dive watch. Crown guards and a unidirectional bezel mix with the quintessential Roman numerals and sword hands to produce something entirely new – yet recognizably Cartier. [Image of Cartier Calibre de Cartier Diver]( [Image of Zenith Defy Extreme]( [Zenith Defy Extreme]( It is easy to appreciate a watch that pushes the boundaries of what can be done. At 5Hz, typical Zenith El Primero is considered a high-beat movement that can time things down to the 1/10th of a second. Pressing the start pusher sends the seconds hand speeding around the dial once a second, being powered by a separate gear train that sounds like an angry wasp screaming to be let out of the case. [Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Geographic]( The watch has a subtle complication that works as well as a GMT or World Timer for us travelers. The sub-dial is a second clock face with a miniscule AM/PM indicator, the second crown at 10 rotates the reference cities while also changing the sub-dial clock, similar to how a world timer works. It may be the most unobtrusive way to tell the time anywhere in the world. [Image of Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Geographic]( [Image of Longines Master Collection Moonphase Chronograph]( [Longines Master Collection Moonphase Chronograph]( This is the watch many of us lust after when we first start learning what the world of watches has to offer. It has the history of a nearly 200-year-old watchmaker, the mechanical prowess of multiple complications from an in-house manufacturer, and – best of all – a price point that feels like it's missing a digit.
