A mil-spec classic returns in uncompromising fashion. [Today, BENRUS adds a new chapter to the legacy of its legendary Type I military dive watch, with its first-ever official reissue, now available to the public for the very first time.]( [A limited edition of 1,000 pieces, each Type I is assembled by hand in America, and BENRUS is donating a portion of the proceeds of each watch sold to the Boulder Crest Foundation, which supports combat veterans and first responders. We're proud to partner with BENRUS and be the first to offer the Type I to a new generation of watch collectors in the HODINKEE Shop.]( BENRUS TYPE I LIMITED EDITION [Originally created in 1972 as a response to the rigorous guidelines set by the United States Department of Defense for the ideal U.S. military wristwatch, BENRUS was the only brand to meet the required standard.]( [The new-for-2020 Type I carries the original watch's attributes into the 21st century, making only slight contemporary updates. You'll find a sapphire crystal instead of the prior acrylic, but it is recessed into the dial to the same degree of its predecessor. The black bezel insert is now anodized aluminum, but its 12-hour numerals have been painstakingly recreated.]( [The iconic unsigned dial features the same matte black tone you'd expect from the Type I, and the use of white Super-LumiNova on the hour markers and ladder hands has been reproduced with considerable thought given to the original's placement and application.]( [The movement inside the new BENRUS Type I is a hacking automatic ETA 2681, and the steel case offers water resistance up to 300 meters. The caseback engraving is, once again, the same as you'd find on a vintage example, from the font to the verbiage. It does now include, however, the current production date and unique serial of each watch (0001 to 1000).]( [The Type I now also features removable spring bars and comes on a high-quality two-piece nylon strap.
