Maybe you're spending some nourishing time with family. Perhaps you're carving out some time to do something fun. There will always be more work to be done and more things to accomplish. It's doesn't benefit anyone if you never take a break. So take some time to recharge. I have a feeling 2022 is going to be a big year. :) It will be good to replenish your energy. ð¦ Winging It & The Last Time Enjoy these astute observations from Oliver Burkeman: âItâs alarming to face the prospect that you might never truly feel as though you know what youâre doing, in work, marriage, parenting, or anything else. But itâs liberating, too, because it removes a central reason for feeling self-conscious or inhibited about your performance in those domains in the present moment: if the feeling of total authority is never going to arrive, you might as well not wait any longer to give such activities your allâto put bold plans into practice, to stop erring on the side of caution. It is even more liberating to reflect that everyone else is in the same boat, whether theyâre aware of it or not.â âOur lives, thanks to their finitude, are inevitably full of activities that weâre doing for the very last time. Just as there will be a final occasion on which I pick up my sonâa thought that appalls me, but one thatâs hard to deny, since I surely wonât be doing it when heâs thirtyâthere will be a last time that you visit your childhood home, or swim in the ocean, or make love, or have a deep conversation with a certain close friend. Yet usually thereâll be no way to know, in the moment itself, that youâre doing it for the last time. Harrisâs point is that we should therefore try to treat every such experience with the reverence weâd show if it were the final instance of it. And indeed thereâs a sense in which every moment of life is a âlast time.â It arrives; youâll never get it againâand once itâs passed, your remaining supply of moments will be one smaller than before. To treat all these moments solely as stepping-stones to some future moment is to demonstrate a level of obliviousness to our real situation that would be jaw-dropping if it werenât for the fact that we all do it, all the time.â These quotes are from Oliver's latest book: Four Thousands Weeks. We recently released a book breakdown diving into its details. For anyone who has ventured at all into the world of philosophy and spirituality, Watts is likely to be a household name. In case youâre unaware, he was a British philosopher, writer, speaker, and one of the most iconic popularizers of Eastern philosophy in the Western world. For many of us, olâ Alan was our first âguruâ figure, helping us see the world through new eyes and expanding our understanding of ourselves with his inimitably eloquent expositions. Alan filled this role for me, at least, and Iâll forever love him for all of the things he taught me. Here at HighExistence, weâre colossal fans of Mr. Watts. Weâve shared his powerful relationship advice; five of the greatest videos featuring his work; a collection of his most profound quotes; and one of his most marvelous essays on Zen. Building on that legacy, today weâre going to share a lesser-known passage of Wattsââan explanation of mankindâs deepest identity, taken from one of his lectures.
