The challenge has haunted designers and engineers since the dawn of time: Take an existing product, and expand its functionality to broaden the market. In 1938, farm tractor manufacturer Minneapolis-Moline applied this Swiss Army Knife approach to its Model U series, resulting in the U Deluxe (or UDLX), an enclosed tractor capable of plowing fields during the day and driving to town in its off-hours.
