When it launched back in 2009, the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals seemed like something a little different for the muscle car crowd, an alternative to the summertime outdoor events typically held at race tracks or fairgrounds. In fact, some eyebrows may have been raised when Bob Ashton and his small circle of devoted supporters organized the first of what has come to be known as "MCACN" as an indoor show, to be held in Chicago in November no less. Designed to meet Japanese Kei car tax and insurance regulations, the Chantez has a curb weight of around 1,080 pounds. Just three years later, however, Bertone was effectively gone, the victim of mismanagement and the firm's inability to cope with changing times. Though the last of Bertone's concept cars were sold at auction in 2015, on Saturday, November 17, bidders will have a chance to buy a diverse selection of smaller (and more affordable) Bertone artifacts, offered by Italian auct...[Read More]( [Sponsor]( [When things go Whackee: The Crazee Cuda's longer, older brother]( [When things go Whackee: The Crazee Cuda's longer, older brother]( Posted by Dan Stoner - It's no secret that one of our favorite periods of Cardom is the 10 years between 1965 and 1975: candies, panels, metal flake, and other wild paint, chromed parts, aftermarket wheels, customized cars, factory drag racing, speed equipment, tire technology, pop culture, and the muscle car era were hittin' on all cylinders in those years... right up to the Oil Embargo that stopped us all in our tracks. If you've seen those blue Eisenhower Interstate System signs with the General-turned-President's five-star rank on them, you might have gotten the impression that before 1956, when Ike signed the National Interstate and Defense Highways Act, America simply staggered around on a system of two-lane blacktop that was little changed from Native American footpaths and wagon-rutted settler's...[Read More]( [Las Vegas, 1974]( [Las Vegas, 1974]( Posted by Daniel Strohl - Date: February 1974 Location: Las Vegas, Nevada Source: Vintage Las Vegas What do you see here?...[Read More]( Wednesday, November 14, 2018 [Albuquerque lowriders convince city to scrap its anti-cruising ordinance]( [Albuquerque lowriders convince city to scrap its anti-cruising ordinance]( Posted by Daniel Strohl - Where Route 66 passes through downtown Albuquerque and takes the name Central Avenue, the neon signs of the tourist-laden restaurants and mom-n-pop stores create almost the perfect glow for a windows-down cruise, one enjoyed this past Sunday by drivers of more classics, hot rods, and lowriders than any time in recent memory thanks to last week's repeal of the city's anti-cruising ordinance. That might explain why I chose not to buy a Porsche 356 after the accelerator cable broke during a test drive. To this day, I don't trust Porsches, but I do wonder where it might have taken me. Instead, I bought an early three-speed, four-door Renault Dauphine from the late 1950s.
