In the process, we came across an early car feature that caught our attention. Without Syd Mead's Sentinel 280 concept, he maintains, those cars would never have been green lighted or even designed; the Sentinel 280, however, remained just a fanciful vision of the future that nobody ever bothered building -- at least, until now. However, savvy shoppers -- with sizable budgets -- could have procured a long-roof Jaguar XJS shooting brake, marketed as the Lynx Eventer, as early as 1983. Over 16 production years, just 67 examples (and one prototype) were built, and on May 11, a 1984 Jaguar XJS V12 Lynx Eventer crosses the auction block in Monaco, part of Bonhams "Les Grandes Mar...[Read More]( [The inmate is running the asylum; photochopperiness returns!]( [The inmate is running the asylum; photochopperiness returns!]( Posted by Daniel Strohl - I'm free, for the moment. So Jacques Cooper sketched out his ideal body for the 914, a design he was so determined to see produced he saw it through to reality despite his company's exit from coachbuilding partway through the project. While it can be tempting to plunk down $5,000 on a well-worn sports or luxury car, such transactions don't always end well for the buyer. The cost of repairing (or even maintaining) exotic beasts can be daunting, which is why the smart money is on more "middle-class" classic cars.
