In the 1950s, Chrysler developed cars using a functional structure. People specialized, so that one person might design nothing but axles. The chassis, body, electrical, and testing were all done in different groups. When the design was done, following Lee Iacocca's words, it was tossed over the wall to Manufacturing, which had to figure out how to build it. Then, in 1957-'58, Chrysler Corporation, quietly and almost certainly without fully recognizing what they were doing, created a platform team.

[Hemmings Find of the Day - 1937 Hupmobile]( Posted by Daniel Strohl - Original unrestored 1937 Hupmobile for sale on Hemmings.com. From the seller's description: completely original, 17,000 mile, rust-free art deco masterpiece. This 1937 Hupmobile Aerodynamic Rumble Seat Model G Coupe is just one of two in existence and is virtually untouched from the day it left the Detroit factory. Operationally it starts, runs and drives like its brand new. And everything works! Including the gas gauge and the dome light. Even the accessory Trico steering column fan works. The engine compartmen...[Read More](

[Four-Links - Vega wagon, Russian car museum, mobile homes, immobile homes]( Posted by Daniel Strohl - Initially, the Vega was to be released only as a notchback and as a fastback, no wagon. But thanks to one designer's after-hours work and a fortuitous visit from Ed Cole, the wagon got added to the lineup. Dean's Garage has the story of how the Vega wagon came to be. * This is a few years old now, but in case you missed it, Wired stopped by the 300-car museum/collection of Soviet cars compiled by Mikhail Krasinets. * This week, the National Trust for Historic Preservation asked whether mobile homes, th...[Read More](

[Hemmings Find of the Day - 1991 Eagle Talon TSi]( Posted by Kurt Ernst - Turbocharged, five-speed, front-wheel drive 1991 Eagle Talon TSi for sale. From the seller's description: Very clean factory stock, front wheel drive, 5 speed, turbo, four cylinder car. It was my daily driver until 99 when it was turned into a garage queen. The only concession from stock is the sub woofers in the trunk. The subs are not bolted down, no mounting holes were made with there installation. If you do not want them. They can be removed with no tell tale sign they were ever in the car. They do go with the ...[Read More](

[Prancing moose creator sent cease and desist letter by Volvo]( Posted by Daniel Strohl - A cheeky homage to Volvo's sometimes staid reputation may soon become a thing of the past now that Volvo has sent a cease and desist letter to the creator of the prancing moose logo over his use of the Swedish company's trademark on restoration parts. As Dave Barton shared on his site, PrancingMoose.com, the cease and desist letter came directly from Volvo Trademark Holdings in Sweden right around Easter weekend "after years of Volvo offering silent indifference" to the reproduction Volvo logos Barton has offered...[Read More](

[French Customs threatens to crush man's Holden ute over factory-standard "secret compartment"](
[French Customs threatens to crush man's Holden ute over factory-standard 'secret compartment']( Posted by Daniel Strohl - It's merely a fluke of the design and manufacturing process for the HG Holden ute: a gap between floorpans not present in sedan or station wagon versions. However, French Customs officials are threatening to crush one man's dream ute after discovering the feature in the nearly 50-year-old Australian vehicle. Because Holden built its utes and panel vans on station wagon floorpans from about 1956 through 1971, achieving a flat-bed floor meant enclosing a small space behind the cab and ahead of the rear axle, where ...[Read More](
