It makes sense if video storage isn't top of mind when planning your event. The Oscar's Missed An Opportunity Inauthenticity comes to mind when thinking of the Oscar 2021 format. If you want a deep-dive into the exact parameters of this year's Oscar requirements, make sure to check out this week's episode of [Event Brew.]( But if you aren't interested in specifics, the general consensus is that this year's Academy Awards could've been handled differently. The Academy's main rules were: - No Zooming in - No casual dress - Make sure you are aspirational and inspirational Kind of a tall order for an award show that has missed the mark a few times. These rules led to an evening that seemed a bit inauthentic. The exception being this beautifully genuine reaction from Chinese filmmaker Chloé Zhao - the second woman to win the award for Best Director. 😍 [authentic] We think the awards show should have been a bit more inclusive. The night ended with the winner for Best Actor, Anthony Hopkins not being present to accept his award... what a riveting way to end the evening. This is a perfect example of wanting to go back to a "normal" that people aren't ready for yet. Eliminating the ability to remotely accept awards was a bold choice. Why wouldn't the Oscars want to try and replicate a beautiful moment like Zendaya winning her Emmy award from the comfort of her own home surrounded by loved ones? These are the moments that people love to see. [zend] This emphasizes our point that allowing, encouraging, and making space for remote attendance is important. If you don't, you are excluding valuable people, ideas, and moments from your event. It takes some extra time and consideration to be done well, but meeting people where they are at is essential.
