I recently found myself feeling happy, productive, and ready to run errands after work ⦠until I got a call with annoying news that made me cry. Just like that, my plan for the rest of the night got totally derailed because I couldnât snap out of my bad mood.
Today, I want to share what my therapist said when I told her about this. Then, Iâm going to ask what *you* do to feel better in times like these. First, here are three stories you might find interesting: • [12 best foods to eat in the morning]( • [Reasons for flank pain â and ways to treat it]( • [Symptoms of Parkinsonâs vs. Huntingtonâs disease](

[How do you shake off a bad mood?](
Iâve always had a tough time bouncing back after something ruins my mood. It doesnât even take much, either. The littlest thing (like an annoying text or a hiccup in my routine) can seriously throw off my whole day or night.
You might call it a temper tantrum, but I genuinely struggle with [emotional regulation](. Like, I *want* to be able to just pick back up, dust off my shoulders, and move on ⦠but itâs really, really hard!
I talked with my therapist about this, and she had some solid advice. (This is why she makes the big bucks.) Basically, she suggested three ways to approach the situation: - practicing acceptance and allowing myself to be upset rather than feeling guilty for it
- [coping skills]( like changes in sensory input that get me out of my head and into my body
- leaning into the [self-care strategies]( that I *know* can â and do â help me feel better Next time, Iâm going to crawl under a weighted blanket and cuddle my cat for an hour to see if it helps. I can also take a cold shower or hold ice cubes to escape my brain and focus on a different physical sensation for a bit. This *might* help me get one step closer to moving on with my day.
But if my plans arenât urgent, I could also just give myself permission to bail, take care of myself, and then pick back up where I left off tomorrow. I love an excuse to stay inside anyway.
Iâm curious: Do you relate? If so, what helps you snap out of a bad mood? Email wellnesswire@healthline.com to share your experience and make me feel less alone! [the science of being cranky]( Great finds
