When Donald Trump claimed that the 2020 election had been âstolenâ from him through âvoter fraud,â where was Andy Harris? He was parroting the same lies alongside dozens of other Republican lawmakers. When House and Senate Republicans refused to certify the legal, free, and fair voting results in battleground states in an attempt to keep Do I will never forget January 6, 2021. I was splitting firewood on the farm while listening to the radio. I rushed inside to the television and watched a violent mob storm the U.S. Capitol, assault police officers, batter down doors, shatter windows, and search for members of Congress and the Vice President to take hostage to reverse the results of a fair and lawful election. Our democracy was under attack. My son, who was deployed to the Middle East, called. "How can we protect America from adversaries abroad when it looks like we are in a civil war at home?" he asked. "The world is watching.â Thatâs when I decided to run for Congress. Letâs be clear, January 6th was an organized assault on our democracy. It was mob rule. An insurrection. An attempted violent takeover of government and subversion of the Constitution. And it was all based on lies. Big Lies. The same people who told those lies a year ago are still at it today. Andy Harris, the guy Iâm running against, is one of them. His actions are shameful. We canât afford to let these insurrectionists win. We canât afford their attempts to whitewash and cover up what happened on January 6th. We canât afford to ignore the Constitution, suppress votes, and allow these terrorists to incite violence to stay in power. We must continue to investigate, prosecute, and hold accountable the people who fomented the attack. We must save our democracy. Our future is uncertain. It is the time to choose. Chaos or order, conspiracies or truth, authoritarianism or democracy. January 6, 2021, may only be the first attempt at a coup if Donald Trump runs again - especially if his enablers, like Harris, remain in power.
