True Republican Leader Dwight Eisenhower said, “May we never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion.” When I came across this quote, it really got me thinking about the political climate of today. Andy Harris voted to overturn a fair election. He tried to bring a gun onto the house floor. Andy Harris voted to overturn a fair election. He tried to bring a gun onto the House floor. He planned a trip to Hungary to meet with a Far-right dictator whose language on Judaism is reminiscent of a different far-right dictator that our families fought a World War to stop. Not to mention that Harris’ father fought in support of that same dictator. Where I see Andy Harris’ disloyalty to America play out most is his personal relationships. Obviously, he has aligned himself with Donald Trump. But if we go deeper than that we see his close personal friend in the house was Steve King who kept a Confederate Flag on his desk. Or, we see that he donated his campaign’s funds to Marjorie Taylor Greene, the firebrand neo-Nazi out of Georgia. Yes, he chose to donate his funds that he was donated by supporters to support her election. We see that he came out in defense of Roy Moore, the pedophile. To Harris, these are the true American patriots. For me, I spent a career in the Middle East repairing the damage from authoritarian regimes. I was on the ground in Libya, Syria, Sudan, and countless other places. I have seen firsthand the damage and destruction that people like Harris wreak all across the world. That is why, when patriots like Mr. Harris invaded our chapel to democracy, I had had enough. I was raised to believe in ideals like integrity, fidelity, and honesty. I was confirmed to my post by the entire senate because unlike Mr. Harris, I don’t surround myself with enemies to democracy. Only you can judge whether Harris is a subversive actor, but I would take a deep look at who he aligns himself with.
