One big takeaway from this weekâs election results is that voters expect Democrats to fix the economy â now. Iâm going to do that as your representative, but first I need to ask for you to contribute to my campaign to help send me to Washington. Voters are tired of the same old politics, especially rural voters in a district like ours. All they see is politicians fighting among themselves, while they fall farther and farther behind. They see problems but no one working on solutions. They see infrastructure crumbling or woefully out of date. They see debates, but not on the matters that are most important to them. Voters know Andy Harris wonât help them. Heâs proven that in his six terms in Congress. He hasnât sponsored a piece of legislation, heâs done nothing to protect our greatest natural asset, the Chesapeake Bay, and heâs embarrassed himself and our district with his extreme actions in blind support of Donald Trump. But beating down Andy Harris isnât going to win an election. Iâve spent three decades helping rural and forgotten communities develop their economics. Hereâs what Iâd do: The worldwide demand for new technologies, particularly climate-friendly ones, creates great economic and employment opportunities. Iâll work to expand vocational-technical schools to train workers for skilled, technical positions in emerging economies, create jobs for those workers through government-backed initiatives to research, design, build and sell technology solutions to the world, and establish a technology proving ground to test new climate innovations, like Aberdeen Proving Ground does for weapons. Our agricultural and natural resources are second to none, and we are uniquely located near some of the nationâs most affluent markets. Letâs put them together. I will help connect our rural and agricultural economies and our watermen with high-end markets on the Eastern Seaboard by opening regional trading/enterprise zones and building accelerators to help these markets get established. We can encourage growth of micro-economies like wineries and breweries through deregulation and meet market demand for farm-to-table products, organic and value-added products, and agro-tourism. Why sell grapes when you can sell merlot? Small businesses are the heart of our economy and put people to work. I want to make it easier for them to do business by eliminating unnecessary regulations that have outlived their usefulness. The infrastructure bill will expand broadband access. I want to bring District 1 into the 21st Century by connecting all our rural communities to broadband as quickly as possible. Look, voters gave Dems a clear message: Get the economy going. Iâm the only candidate who has done that in places where people said it couldnât be done. I can do it here in Maryland 1st. [Chip in any amount today and we can get it done together.]( -- Dave Harden Dave Harden is a Democrat running for Maryland's 1st Congressional District.
