[Tara McDonald]( is a singer, songwriter, and a HappyCow Ambassador for [Rochester, England]( As a touring musician, Tara knows how difficult it can be traveling while vegan. Luckily, she’s sharing some of her favorite vegan restaurants and more with the Cowmunity! Tara's journey began with documentaries [Tara McDonald] I went vegan overnight in 2016 after watching [various documentaries]( on Netflix: Cowspiracy, Forks Over Knives, What the Health. To be honest, I had wanted to become vegan a lot earlier but thought it would be very difficult. There were lots of signs pointing me towards veganism. On tour in Sri Lanka, I met a Buddhist monk who asked me if I ate meat - at that point I was vegetarian - and he answered "Good, you're not a murderer!" Also, I adopted my friend's dog when she was two, and developing a relationship with an animal as an adult made me completely rethink my attitude towards animal products. Her name is Annie, she is a mini Schnauzer with quite a nervous personality. Being responsible for her health and happiness made me see animal farming as something archaic and completely abhorrent.
