[View this email in your browser]( Bruun Rasmussen in Copenhagen will hold an auction of 'Antique Carpets and Rugs' on 14 June 2023 at 3pm CEST, and of 'Modern Carpets and Rugs' on 12 June at 3pm. The auctions will offer a mix of classical rugs and rugs from the 20th century, which can be previewed from 7–11 June. Highlights among the classical pieces include an early 17th-century Persian Safavid Kashan/Esfahan silk and metal thread 'Polonaise' rug, a fine full silk Tafazoli Kashan rug, a stunning Sarouk-Ferahan rug, a fine verdure tapestry, a few decorative 19th century Heriz carpets, a square Bakshaish carpet and a few Seirafian rugs. The modern carpet and rug auction offers a wide range of pieces by some of the best Scandinavian textile designers of the 20th century. There will be four pieces from Danish designer, Anna Thommesen, whose Navajo-like designs are highly sought after. Swedish designers are well-represented in the sale, as there are pieces by Vibeke Klint, Anna-Lisa Odelqvist-Kruse, Märta Måås-Fjetterström, Berit Koenig Woelfer, Anna-Greta Sjöqvist, Carl Malmsten and more. This exhibition explores the past, present and future for kumihimo (joining threads together): an intricate, decorative braided cord from Japan, characterised by vivid colours and intricate patterns. Tracing the 1300-year-old history of these braids, 'Kumihimo' allows visitors to witness their development from the Silk Roads to the kimono. Many exciting and sophisticated pieces feature, from antique rugs for the floor to early pieces of woven art for the wall. Several antique room-sized carpets, including Heriz and Serapis, soft-toned Ushaks and finely woven Kashans are included in the sale. Plus many other collectible rugs from the Caucasus, Anatolia and Persia are also on offer, such as unusual Kazaks, delightful Ladik prayer rugs and whimsical southwest Persian pieces.
