There will be a wide array of antique rugs, ranging from beautiful Serapi carpets to finely woven tribal bags. Many excellent Caucasian rugs are featured as well as Persian and Anatolian pieces. There will also be bold and unusual Kuba rugs, refined Marasali prayer rugs, as well as [lot 148]( a delightfully playful Bakhshaish garden carpet, est. $5–7,000 (shown above). Finally, there will be several fine and early textiles on offer. Collectors, dealers, aficionados and anyone else interested in rugs and textile art will find plenty of rare and exciting material in this auction. The exhibition is showing until 29 March 2023 and offers the opportunity to see the first phase of the museum's transition into a more interactive space for visitors, allowing them to be 'active participants in dynamic cultural experiences inspired by collection objects'. This exhibition explores the ways in which a group of textiles from around the globe are connected to nature, focussing on 'the life cycle of a textile in relation to sustainability, and daily life'. [Find out more.]( Capsule will hold its 'Carpets from the Jim Dixon Collection' online auction, a sale of rugs and textiles from the important collector’s archives with select additions, on 30 March 2023 at 11am EST (4pm BST). Pre-bidding is available now and live bidding begins on 30 March at 11am EST. The sale can be previewed from 11am–3pm on 28 and 29 March, and by appointment, at Capsule’s Chelsea gallery on the New York High Line. Jim Dixon was an esteemed landscape architect and a longtime collector of important rugs and textiles. Self-taught and endlessly passionate about the textiles he collected, he developed a massive collection of intricately woven rugs, many created before 1860, and some dating as far back as 1804. His discerning eye for great artistry is widely recognised in the industry; Dixon has been called '[one of] the most accomplished fragment collectors ever.' The objects offered in the auction span centuries and continents, including Avar rugs from east Caucasus, Yürük and Bergama rugs from west Anatolia, and Ningxia rugs from west China.
