In HALI 213, the Museumâs senior curator, Sumru Belger Krody, chooses five examples from the collection that illustrate its importance and help to tell the story of humanityâs dependence on, and reverence for, the horse. In her article, Krody outlines the evolution of equestrian textiles, which initially served to 'protect the horse and its rider', eventually acquiring 'decorative and spiritual meaning' and ultimately becoming 'as elaborate as royal costumes or religious textiles'.
