Sunday is the last day to enter the Hackaday Prize. [Digi-Key is a proud sponsor of the 2022 Hackaday Prize]( [3602421454791242043.png] Wednesday, October 12, 2022 [Interactive Air Quality Map Lets You Breathe Easy »]( Time To Get Wild It's kind of hard to believe, but it's nearly the middle of October, which means that Supercon is literally just around the corner. (Woo-hoo!) And what does that mean? That y'all are running out of time to enter the 2022 Hackaday Prize and have a bona fide go at saving the world with your hacker skills and sensibilities. [Start your entry today!]( You have until Sunday, October 16th at 7:00AM PDT to press 'submit'. [2022 Hackaday Prize Wildcard Round]( Since we're getting down to the wire on this whole thing, that means we're smack-dab in the middle of the Wildcard round where (nearly) anything goes. So far, we've run rounds focused on [green power generation]( [recycling]( [hacking tech out of the landfills]( and [making our world more climate-resistant and connected](. In what other ways could you make the world a better place? Well, that's why we call it the Wildcard Round. If your project helps to keep this planet chugging along, this is where you get on board. We keep a dynamic spreadsheet in the Hackaday Cloud (of Doom) of Prize entries as they roll in, and there's quite a variety of projects so far this round, which is exactly what we're asking for! So if you thrive on the thrill of working down to the wire, now's your time to shine. Need a little more inspiration before getting started? Check out some of the more recent entries below. Highlights from the IO POPULAR BITS [project thumbnail]( [Ethersweep: Monitor and Control All the Motors]( Need easy interfacing between things like computers and machines to motion controllers? It doesn't get much easier than bolting these double-decker delights directly to your NEMA-17s. [project thumbnail]( [Look Ma, No Microcontroller!]( While this portable spot welder may look smart, there isn't a microcontroller in sight, just a bunch of hard-working electrolytic capacitors. The ability to discharge makes it safe to store, and (relatively) safe to use. [project thumbnail]( [Adding Fun-ctionality to Wheelchairs]( If you use a power wheelchair, you're likely to be familiar with the controller already, so why not use it for games, too? JoytoJoy is a simple add-on joystick that revs up the fun by adding an easy-to-use game controller right on top of the chair's joystick. Hack Chat LIVE CHAT WITH LEADING EXPERTS EVERY WEDNESDAY [Today: RF Hacking Hack Chat]( Join us today at noon Pacific for the [RF Hacking Hack Chat]( with Chris Poore! For as revolutionary as cheap SDRs have been, hacking in the RF realm can sometimes be a bit difficult. To pull off really righteous hacks, you need some kind of framework that lets you build some context around the signals you pull out of the ether. Chris Poore will drop by the Hack Chat to talk about one such framework, called FISSURE, and about RF hacking and reverse engineering in general. Check it out and bring your questions and war stories to share. [Next Week: Lubrication Engineering Hack Chat]( Rafe Britton will host [next week's Hack Chat](. It may seem like WD-40 is the answer to everything, but there's much more to lubrication than just a spritz from the familiar blue and yellow can. Modern lubricants are extremely complex substances that are highly engineered to have specific properties under specific conditions. And while you might not need to know the details of how lubricants are made, getting a little inside information on them from a professional lubrication engineer can help you make better decisions on which oils and greases are right for your application. Rafe Britton will stop by the Hack Chat to talk about all the engineering that goes into that liter of oil or tube of grease, and how to put them to work. Featured Projects POPULAR BITS [Inflatable Buildings That Can Sequester CO2, Too]( [Tica-Lab Kills Mosquitoes Without Chemicals]( [Power For All Means Software-Defined and Switch-Mode]( [Real-Time Water Consumption, Streamed to a Display]( Live Events MEETUPS, CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS [Philadelphia Maker Faire - Oct. 15]( The Philly Maker Faire had to be put on hold during the height of the pandemic, but it's back for 2022 with a new location and a renewed passion for showcasing the work of local makers and artists. [If our 2019 visit is any indication]( this is going to be a must-see event for those in the tri-state area. [WOPR Summit 0x01 - Oct. 20 - 21]( After several delays, the second WOPR Summit is set to happen at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [We were impressed with the inaugural event]( and have high hopes for this budding East Coast hacker con. [Hackaday Supercon 6 - Nov. 4 - 6]( Yes, it's true! No more Remoticon -- the 2022 Hackaday Superconference is on, live from Pasadena! [Tickets are on sale now]( and we'll be sharing info on speakers and workshops soon.
