[3602421454791242043.png] Wednesday, July 3, 2024 [Microfluidics Business Card Does It Without Electrons >>]( While the Judges Deliberate... Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably heard about [the 2024 Business Card Challenge](. With this challenge, you had the chance to step up your informational game and win prizes to boot. As of yesterday, the contest has officially closed, and now the judges are busy poring over all of your fabulous FR4-based entries. We've got three $150 DigiKey shopping sprees for the top three entries, plus several Honorable Mention categories, and we can't wait to see which entries will rise to the top. Stay tuned! As predicted, we had a number of entries over the final weekend, many of which are featured below. We've got not one but two calculating cards, plus a pair of musical cards and a couple that function as tools. Highlights from the IO POPULAR BITS [project thumbnail]( [This Card Is Three Test Tools In One]( Talk about useful! This card boasts a contactless AC voltage tester, a 555-based 1 kHz square wave generator, and a continuity/diode tester, all powered by a coin cell. Not a bad little suite of tools to have with you on the go! [project thumbnail]( [HexCalc is Meant For Microcontroller Devs]( When working with microcontrollers, it's important to be able to understand and calculate in bases other than ten. HexCalc is aimed at developers in that it supports hexadecimal, decimal, and octal bases. It also does bit math, modulus, bit shifts, and more. [project thumbnail]( [Canta-Cart Is a Portable Musical Instrument]( If you want your business card to do something with inputs, capacative touch pads are probably the way to go to keep the BOM cost way down. Canta-Cart features twelve touch pads; ten for notes, and two for transpositions to extend the tonal range. There's even an emulator for the browser! Featured Projects POPULAR BITS [Forth Calculator Card Uses As Much Of the Interpreter As Possible]( [Guitar Pedal Card Is a Big Muff In a Small Package]( [Mixable RGB Business Card Does It With Solar Power]( [Self-Replicating Card Can Also Do a Little Bit of Everything]( Live Events MEETUPS, CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS [HOPE XV - July 12-14]( Spread the word! The fifteenth Hackers On Planet Earth conference will be held once again at St. John's University in Queens, New York. Tickets are still available, so please help support one of the most must-see hacker events to ever take place. [BornHack - July 17-24]( Is there such a thing as Hacker Island? Yes, yes there is -- for seven glorious days in August. Remote as it may sound, there is plenty of Internet to go around, and even a barracks-style cabin if you don't want to sleep in a tent. [VCF Southeast - July 19-21]( The details on the speakers and exhibits are still forthcoming, but the organizers promise some very interesting speakers this year. Come for the first-hand accounts of events in computer history, and stay for the exhibits, hands-on activities, consignment area, and vendors. [DEFCON 32 - Aug 8-11]( What is likely the world's most well-known infosec conference is back in-person this year in sunny Las Vegas. This year's theme is Engage. How do we fight what Cory Doctorow has dubbed the ensh*ttification of the Internet? We engage. And together, we'll tear down the walled gardens that tech monopolies have created. [East Coast RepRap Festival - Sept 28-29]( We don't have much information at this time other than the date, but you can bet on about 17,000 square feet of fun, and maybe even a Pinewood Derby with 3D-printed cars like last year. [The Hackaday Superconference - Nov 1-3]( Supercon is by far the most awesome hardware hacker con of the year, and if you love Hackaday, you definitely want to be there. Honestly, just the crowd that Supercon brings together is reason enough to attend, but then you throw in the talks, the badge-hacking, the food, and the miscellaneous shenanigans... it's an event you really don't want to miss. The call for participation is now open, so get those talk proposals in while you can!
