Our popular Platinum Night session, featuring the finest numismatic material, is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, April 27. [The Hutchinson Collection, Part II]( features a wide variety of half eagles minted 1834 and earlier. All such coins are quite rare, but none more so than the [1828/7 BD-2 half eagle in this auction]( the only coin of this variety known to exist. A mere 16 examples dated 1828 are confirmed in all varieties. This coin, graded MS63 by NGC, is certain to find a home in an important collection. Nearly as rare, and from the same collection, is the 1833 Small Date half eagle, BD-3. Only two examples are traced, although we believe three or four to exist. [This coin, graded MS61 by PCGS]( is the only example known to be available for collectors, and would be considered a high end coin for the date even if it were a relatively more common variety. This is the first auction appearance for this variety in over twenty years. Another significant coin offered in this auction is a [Proof 1866 double eagle With Motto, graded Proof-65 Cameo by NGC]( and certified by CAC with a gold sticker indicating that CAC believes that the coin is undergraded. At Proof-65, the coin is unsurpassed in numerical grade at the major grading services, with one other coin graded Proof-65 Deep Cameo. Ten examples of this coin are traced, with 14-16 believed to exist. None of the others is likely to possess the combination of eye appeal and technical quality of this piece. - [1918-D 10C MS66 Full Bands PCGS]( - [1871-CC $1 MS61 NGC]( - [1922 $1 Matte Finish, High Relief PR64 PCGS.
