Mickey Spillane's Personal 1942 Issue of Green Hornet] 1976-86 was a wonderful time to be a comic reader. That is author George Khoury's thesis, and if you agree with it (which I do, passionately!), this book will be for you. Especially if you were a kid in that era. The cover alone is a delight - it's an Alex Ross painting of Snyderman (host of the Superhero Merchandise Catalog), flying amidst the likes of a Power Record, treasury-size comics, Hostess fruit pies, and some Underoos. Which in turn leads me to my favorite part of the book, as it examines not only the comics themselves but all the things that tied into them in those days. Author George Khoury looks at Big Jim's P.A.C.K., Fireside books, Grit, KISS, the Mile High Comics centerfold ads, Dynamite magazine and other late-70s to early-80s phenomena. There are even two entire pages devoted to the Jack Davis-drawn "Rick Barry and Dr. J" Spalding ad! I know of no other book that covers all of those things I just mentioned. I also hasten to mention that the author does not snarkily look down on this material the way so many websites tend to do. He loves it, respects it and celebrates it, an approach I found very refreshing. The book is available in bookstores and can be ordered at [twomorrows.com](. – Barry Sandoval [Back to Top](#top) []Around Heritage Auctions Autographed 45 of The Beatles' Please Please Me may bring $40,000 at Heritage Auctions [Beatles signed 45 single]( A 45 rpm copy of the second single released in the United Kingdom signed by all four members of the Beatles is expected to earn top lot honors at Heritage Auctions' [Entertainment & Music Memorabilia Signature Auction]( March 18 in Dallas. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr all signed the Ask Me Why B-side of the record; McCartney and Harrison also signed the reverse side, which features an A-side recording of Please Please Me. Given to its original owner at the Cavern Club in Liverpool, the single was released Jan. 11, 1963, 13 days before a signing session at the NEMS record shop, where the signatures likely were acquired.
