Stan Lee and Dan DeCarlo's obscure treasure! This was only episode #15 of this wonderful hidden-gem of Marvel Comics' lore! The Willie Lumpkin comic strip series was created by Stan Lee and Dan DeCarlo, and Stan Lee was the writer. When Willie Lumpkin was introduced as the mailman for the Baxter Building in Fantastic Four #11 in 1963. Stan Lee would even play Willie Lumpkin in a cameo role of the 2005 Fantastic Four movie. But wait! There's more... You see, before they created Willie Lumpkin, Stan Lee had first created Barney's Beat. It was about a New York City cop and the wacky denizens of his district. DeCarlo worked up some samples that they shopped around. Also included in this very group is one of those sample strips. Note the "Lumpkin's Butcher Shop" window. That's where Willie would soon get his name! Barney's Beat was not picked up, as people in rural areas may not identify with a big city cop. Both of these strips were an experiment in using a single long panel instead of multiple panels. Around this same time, DeCarlo created a strip of his own title Buzz and Bunny . He shopped it around, but it was not picked up either. There is a wonderful example of that strip as well. This concept was eventually repackaged into Josie and sold to Archie Comics as a comic book series. These three historic strips were created in ink (some with Zipatone) over graphite on Bristol board. Buzz and Bunny has an image area of 20" x 6.5". The other two are 15.75" x 5". There are some stains and handling wear on each. There is missing Zipatone on the Willie Lumpkin strip. They are in Very Good condition with great eye-appeal.

[]Frank Frazetta Masterpiece Joins Superman, Batman and Captain America in our May Comics & Comic Art Auction
[Frank Frazetta Egyptian Queen Painting Original Art (1969)]( The most serious of collectors have a rare opportunity to acquire an unquestioned collection centerpiece when one of the most popular paintings by iconic artist Frank Frazetta crosses the block in [Heritage Auctions' Comics & Comic Art Auction]( May 16-18 in Chicago.
[Frank Frazetta Egyptian Queen Painting Original Art (1969)]( (estimate: $5,000,000+) is arguably the most famous piece by Frazetta, the legendary American fantasy and science fiction artist whose paintings and illustrations have been used in a multitude of media, including comic books, paperback book covers, posters and album covers. The image is so popular that it has inspired other artists to try to create their own versions as an homage to Frazetta.
"In the late 1960s, Frank Frazetta completely reinvented and massively expanded the entire field of fantasy illustration, as his paintings single-handedly sold hundreds of thousands of books and scores of wildly popular posters," Heritage Auctions Vice President Todd Hignite said. "Dating from this peak period, his masterful Egyptian Queen is indisputably one of the greatest and most important paintings the artist ever created ... and it is by far the absolute best Frazetta painting to ever be offered at auction."
[Superman #1 (DC, 1939) CGC VG/FN 5.0 Cream to off-white pages]( (estimate: $400,000+) is the finest unrestored copy Heritage Auctions ever has offered of the issue that ranks No. 3 on Overstreet's "Top 100 Golden Age Comics" list. The demand for this issue is such that it is more difficult to find in this grade (or better) than older prized DC issues like Action Comics #1 and Detective Comics #27. Not surprisingly, more restored copies of the 80-year-old issue have survived than unrestored copies like the one offered here. The story and art are from Superman co-creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The issue retells the origin of Superman, and features the first pin-up of the Man of Steel on the back cover.
Ranked No. 5 on Overstreet's "Top 100 Golden Age Comics" list, and a candidate to elevate to at least a tie for the No. 4 spot, [Batman #1 (DC, 1940) CGC FN- 5.5 Cream to off-white pages]( (estimate: $300,000+) is a must-have issue for any serious collector. The Caped Crusader got his own title in this issue about a year after he first appeared in in Detective Comics #27, and the two titles ran concurrently for more than 70 years. The issue, which includes the first appearances of both the Joker and the Cat (who later was known as Catwoman), features a pin-up of Batman and Robin on the back cover, includes art by Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson.
Egyptian Queen is one of 23 works by Frazetta in the auction. Also offered is [Frank Frazetta Jaguar God #2 Cover Painting Original Art (Verotik,1995)]( (estimate: $250,000+), one of two paintings the artist did in 1995. Incorporating many of the elements expected in a Frazetta image, the Jaguar God protects his damsel in distress against a horde of half-ape minions. This oil on canvas is a great example from the era by Frazetta, whose work has enjoyed a surge in popularity and demand in recent years.
[Captain America Comics #1 (Timely, 1941) CGC FN/VF 7.0 Cream to off-white pages]( (estimate: $250,000+) leads the finest run of Captain America comics that Heritage Auctions ever has offered in a single sale. Copies of this issue, which includes the origin and first appearance of both Captain America and Bucky, are extremely scarce on the market, and when they do become available, demand soars. Red Skull makes his first appearance in the issue, which features Captain America knocking down Adolf Hitler on the cover by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon.

[]Cover of the Week: What's a Little Sibling Rivarly/Murder?
Little Johnny and Jack would grow up to be best of friends. Had they ever made it past their sibling rivalry years that is. We couldn't help but notice how clueless Mom is. We are pretty sure they weren't really "little angels" and Mom looks a little more haggard than this usually, but she was posing for the picture. Why even go to such lengths guys? Just face off in 10 paces for a duel!
