Named "the Clinton Collection" since it hails from Clinton, Massachusetts, these books were bought off the newsstand and read once each, then found their way into a footlocker at the family home, where they remained until earlier this year. Most of the books are late 1960s Marvels and DCs, with a few other publishers represented. Every book has been certified by CBCS, and most are in the VF+ 8.5 - NM 9.4 range, though some grade as high as NM/MT 9.8. "An original-owner collection is always something special, and not only do these have a uniform appearance, they're uniformly nice! I haven't seen any tanning on one single book. These comics are fresh to the market and fresh in their appearance," said Barry Sandoval, Vice-President of Heritage Auctions. Heritage will have a selection in every Sunday Internet Comics Auction, with a few of the top highlights included in the February 2019 Signature Comics and Comic Art Auction. "Yes, I know it, I can't help it." replies Bugs Bunny in song, disguised as Brünnhilde. This cartoon is considered to be Chuck Jones' masterpiece. It was released on 7/6/57, and in 1992, it became the first cartoon short to be chosen by The Library of Congress for the National Film Register. Written by Mike Maltese, it also boasted the talents of Chuck Jones' team of Maurice Noble, Phil DeGuard, Ken Harris, Richard Thompson, and Abe Levitow, to mention a few. Mel Blanc provided the voice for Bugs, while Arthur Q. Bryan was Elmer. This is a piece of Looney Tunes and animation history — an original Chuck Jones layout drawing of Elmer Fudd as Siegfried. This is the moment he first sees Bugs in drag as Brünnhilde, as seen around the 2:54 mark. Detailed Chuck Jones layout drawing in graphite on 12 field animation paper, signed in the bottom right corner. Gossamer made his first appearance in this Chuck Jones-directed and Tedd Pierce-written theatrical short. This classic Jones cartoon was released on 5/25/46. This was the last Chuck Jones-directed short to use his Bugs design. His next short moved over to the Robert McKimson design. You can see this cel very briefly about the 5:42 mark in the castle wall picture chase scene. Great full-figure image, with a size of 6". Cel is on a beautiful hand-painted background made for presentation purposes. Plexiglas-front frame is 23" x 20" with a mat opening of 11" x 9". Frame is sold as-is. This is an outstanding and extremely rare 12 field 2-peghole animation drawing of Mickey Mouse from his first widely released cartoon, Steamboat Willie. After Pete kicks Mickey and he falls down the stairs, Mickey is met by a laughing parrot. He sees a pail of water and throws it over the parrot's head. You can see this at the 1:28 mark into the short. Guess Mickey had a temper, 90 years ago! Opening title card reads "A Walt Disney Comic by Ub Iwerks." Walt Disney directed this short, with most all animation done by Ub Iwerks (1901-1971). This film was named #13 in Jerry Beck's book The 50 Greatest Cartoons . Also, in 1998, this film was selected for preservation by the US National Film Registry. Great full-figure graphite image, with a size of 3" x 5". Gertie then walks up to an animated Winsor McCay, picks him up with her mouth and places him on her back for a ride. This is an outstanding and important piece of inked artwork from the hand of Winsor McCay (1869-1934), used to create the landmark animated short, Gertie the Dinosaur. McCay drew each individual scene on rice paper by hand; this was before the use of nitrate or acetate cel use began. Gertie, the subject of McCay's third cartoon, was animation's first superstar. This film premiered on February 8, 1914 at the Palace Theater in Chicago. The cartoon is ranked #6 in Jerry Beck's book The 50 Greatest Cartoons . This historic piece is the very first Gertie drawing we have ever offered that has an image of Winsor McCay in the scene. It can be found in the film around the 13:09 mark. Art is in ink on 9" x 7" rice paper mounted to board; the number 309 is inked in bottom right corner. Gertie is 4.5", while Windsor is 3" with his long wand. Matted with an opening of 10" x 8", and framed using Plexiglas for an overall size of 20" x 19". A screen grab print of this artwork is included in the lot. Frame is sold as-is, artwork condition is Very Good. [Back to Top](#top) []Around Heritage Auctions [ Auguste Rodin Éternel printemps]( Rodin's Éternel Printemps Ratchets up the Romance in Heritage Auctions' European Art Auction Leading Heritage Auctions' Dec. 7 [Fine European Art Auction]( is Auguste Rodin's monumental [Éternel printemps]( (est. $400,000-$600,000). Depicting two lovers in a passionate embrace, this magnificent bronze is a star within a constellation of masterworks from the likes of William Adolphe Bouguereau, Gerald Brockhurst, and Louis Valtat. Cast between 1899 and 1901, Éternel printemps is one of just 58-recorded Ferdinand Barbedienne casts of the celebrated sculpture in its second state, first reduction. "The dazzling play of light on the lovers' limbs accentuates the effect of movement, which was of paramount importance to Rodin," Heritage's European art specialist Marianne Berardi said. "It would be no exaggeration to say this bronze is a page out of Rodin's own biography. At the time he conceived it, the sculptor had fallen head over heels in love with the young sculptor Camille Claudel. She drove him wild and this bronze is a particular testament to that," Berardi said. The sale also features other notable bronzes including another Rodin, [Homme assis, etude B]( (est. $10,000-$15,000), in which Rodin gave full rein to the sensual manipulation of clay ultimately cast into bronze. In bold contrast to Rodin's work is Gerhard Marcks' [Amazon]( (est. $10,000-$15,000), which emerged out of the modernist idiom of the Bauhaus with its smooth planes and minimalist surface treatment. Marcks' figure presents the ancient women warrior as a figure whose weapons in the 20th century may be more cerebral than physical, by accentuating her stare over her physicality. In addition, Aristide Maillol's [Petit torso]( from 1910 (est. $30,000-$50,000), is a sculpture that derives its motif from the antique but conceives its form as simplified geometries, which gives it a modern appearance. English painter Gerald Brockhurst's alluring [1937 portrait of movie star Merle Oberon]( is another highpoint of the auction (est. $40,000-$60,000). Oberon's exotic beauty was her stepping-stone to a successful film career including her iconic role as Cathy in Wuthering Heights, opposite Sir Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff. "The painting comes to Heritage directly from the artist's family," European art specialist Janell Snape stresses, adding, "What a pleasure it is to include such a masterful portrait in our sale; a great combination of classic Hollywood glamour and stunning technique!" French 20th century painting makes a strong appearance in the auction. Louis Valtat's [Mère et enfants]( (est. $30,000-$50,000) beautifully demonstrates Valtat's mastery of formalist experiments of the avant-garde, while retaining traditional concepts of figuration and representation. Jules Pascin's sensitive [Fille à la mandoline]( (est. $20,000-$30,000) dates from the artist's early Parisian period and shows a strong indebtedness to Matisse and the Fauves. Othon Coubine's powerful [Femme Nue]( (estimate $10,000-15,000), Jean Jansem's monumental [Exercise au tabouret]( (est. $15,000-$25,000), and Jean-Pierre Cassigneul's colorful bouquet of tulips on a window ledge titled [Fleurs]( (est. $12,000-$18,000) are other notable French offerings. A handsome group of academic landscapes and genre scenes round out the sale with noteworthy examples such as William Adolphe Bouguereau's [La leçon de flute]( ($200,000-$300,000), Tito Conti's [A demure beauty]( (est. $10,000-$15,000), [Alexander Daiwaille's lush landscape with cattle]( (est. $8,000-$12,000) and [James Walsham Baldock's sporting picture]( (est. $10,000-$15,000).
