[]The Property of a Lady offered in Long Beach
[1915-S $50 Panama-Pacific 50 Dollar Round MS64 PCGS. CAC](
[1915-S $50 Panama-Pacific 50 Dollar Round MS64 PCGS. CAC]( [The Property of a Lady]( is a stunning collection formed in the 1960s. It is primarily a type collection focused on silver issues in both circulation strike and proof, although the collection also contains some beautiful copper pieces, including several remarkable proof half cents.. It is one of the many outstanding collections featured in our [February 22-26 auction of US coins]( in Long Beach. The entire collection, 350+ lots strong, is spread throughout all floor sessions and two important online sessions.
Gold is represented by key commemorative issues, including a resplendent five-piece Panama-Pacific set — with original box — that will be sold as separate lots during the Premier Session. The two fifty-dollar Pan-Pac gold pieces ([round]( and [octagonal]( each grade MS64 PCGS.
Silver coinage is the focus for much of the collection, with early halves, early dollars, Bust, Seated, and Barber coinage, as well as Morgan dollars at the forefront. Most of the coins are wonderfully toned and original, and all have been absent from the market for 50+ years. Proofs are included in the later series, including some dazzling Seated halves and Seated dollars, as well as Morgan dollar proofs. Among the circulation strikes, we note a [Choice Fine 1796 half]( (Ex: George Walton) and an elusive high-grade [1921-S Walking Liberty half certified MS65 PCGS](.
Additional highlights of this collection include:
- [1848 1/2 C Original PR64 Red and Brown PCGS. B-1, Low R.6](
- [1919-D 50C MS64 PCGS](
- [1921 50C MS65 PCGS. CAC](
- [1871-CC $1 AU53 PCGS. OC-1, High R.4](
- [1858 $1 PR65+ PCGS. CAC. OC-P1, Low R.4](
- [1861 $1 PR65 Cameo PCGS. OC-P2, Low R.4](
- [1904-S 50C MS63 PCGS. CAC](
- [1855 $1 MS62 PCGS. CAC. OC-1, High R.3](
- [1878 7TF $1 Reverse of 1878 PR64 Cameo PCGS. CAC. VAM-131](
- [1886 $1 PR67 Cameo PCGS](

[]Seldom Seen Selections: Gold Confederate Cent Restrike
[1861 1C CSA Cent, Gold Restrike -- Damaged -- NGC Details. XF](
[1861 1C CSA Cent, Gold Restrike -- Damaged -- NGC Details. XF]( Numismatic tradition states that Robert Lovett made a small quantity of original copper-nickel Confederate cents after receiving an order from a well-known Philadelphia jeweler who reportedly represented the CSA government. That tradition continues to state that Lovett became nervous over perceived treasonous activities, and told no one about the coins until almost a decade had passed since the end of the Civil War. We are unaware of any fact to support this tradition, aside from the coins themselves.
In 1874, coin dealer John W. Haseltine, who himself served in the Civil War, became aware of these pieces and persuaded Lovett to sell them to him, along with the dies. Haseltine then set about making restrikes in copper, silver, and gold. A circular to collectors bearing the imprint of Haseltine, J. Colvin Randall, and Peter L. Krider, notes that seven gold examples, 12 silver examples, and 55 copper restrikes were minted. Three decades later, Haseltine claimed only three were struck in gold and five in silver. Clearly the circular is more accurate.
Our February 22-26 [Long Beach auction]( features one of the aforementioned [gold cent restrikes](. Both sides have myriad small marks, with a sizeable gouge at CA in AMERICA on the obverse, and short scratches inside the wreath on the reverse. Although noticeably cleaned, this gold restrike has acquired attractive peripheral copper toning. Although NGC describes this piece as damaged, it represents an extremely important opportunity for the collector to acquire the most affordable example among the six surviving specimens.

[]Website Tips: Bid Protection Placed from the Lot Page
Tired of losing lots by one increment? Now, you can choose to add Bid Protection to any lot when you place your bid, If you are outbid, Bid Protection will automatically increase your bid by up to three additional increments, giving you an additional chance to win.
For regular bids placed from the Heritage website, you must place your bid from the item page to be able to use Bid Protection. You cannot add Bid Protection to a bid placed as a batch bid — i.e. from a search page, from My Bids, or from My TrackedLots, among others. Bid Protection is also available for bids placed through Heritage Live.
[Bid Protection through Heritage Live] To place bid protection with your bid, enter your bid on the lot page. Immediately below your bid, there is a drop-down box that will allow you to choose one-half, one, two, or three increments of bid protection. Choose the level of bid protection you want.
[Bid Protection through Heritage Live] When you make your choice, you will receive a message asking you to confirm that you want bid protection. If you do, click OK. Then click on Place Bid to place your bid.
[Bid Protection through Heritage Live] You will be taken to the bid confirmation page. You can change or even remove your bid protection at this time. Once you are satisfied with your bid, click "Confirm Bid".
Now you will be taken to the bid results page. If you are outbid, there is still a chance that your bid protection will be enough to win the lot, depending on the amount of bid protection you have and the current bid. If you place another bid, you must choose bid protection again. Bid Protection does not carry over if you place a new bid on the same item.
[Bid Protection through Heritage Live] The number of increments of Bid Protection you have will show up on the MyBids page, the search page, and the item page, until the item sells. Because of the nature of Bid Protection, if will be added during the live auction, and it will lose tiebreakers to equal bids placed without bid protection.

Important George Washington Inaugural Button Highlights Frent Collection Part II at Heritage Auctions
[George Washington: Pater Patriae... the Holy Grail of GW Inaugural Buttons]( only inaugural button referring to George Washington as the "Father of His Country"]( (perhaps the earliest instance of the use of the phrase) will open for bidding at $20,000 when Heritage Auctions presents [Part II of the David and Janice Frent Collection of Political & Presidential Memorabilia]( Feb. 24. The auction offers 658 lots of extraordinary pin backs, banners, campaign flags and assorted campaign paraphernalia.
"The record-setting debut of the Frent Collection realized a stunning $911,538 last October," said Tom Slater, Director of Americana Auctions at Heritage, "and Part II is every bit as exciting."
The landmark Frent collection — widely regarded as the largest and most comprehensive collection of its kind ever assembled — will span eight dedicated auctions with everything from buttons to banners dating from the founding of the republic up through recent elections.
The collection's extraordinary [Washington Inaugural Button]( is stamped with the words "Pater Patriæ" (Father of his Country) and is the only portrait button in the accepted canon of Washington inaugural buttons. The Frent collection specimen is superior to one recently acquired by Washington's Mount Vernon historic site.
[Henry Clay: An Outstanding Example of the Rare and Iconic 1844 'Ship of State' Silk Campaign Flag]( An outstanding example of the iconic ["Ship of State" Silk Campaign Flag for Henry Clay's 1844 campaign]( also opens with a $20,000 bid. Considered the most desirable Clay flag variety, the rarity has fine display presence and offers a very special opportunity for the advanced specialist in political textiles.
Several photographic campaign items will cross the block, and a stunning [1860 brooch featuring an ambrotype portrait of Abraham Lincoln]( known as the "Cooper Union" pose will open at $12,000. The nation's leading portrait photographer, Mathew Brady, took the image while Lincoln was in New York to give a speech at Cooper Union Institute in February 1860. "Although Lincoln photographic items produced for the 1860 election were widely distributed, almost every example of the George Clark ambrotype suffers condition problems. The marvelous Frent example is essentially in mint condition and is the finest known example to exist," Slater said.
A dramatic [1868 Ulysses S. Grant Silk Campaign Flag]( will open at $7,500. Measuring 33" x 24", the example is likely one of just three others known.
Bidding opens for the Feb. 24 auction of [Part II of the David and Janice Frent Collection of Political & Presidential Memorabilia]( Feb. 5 at [HA.com/ 6187](.

Rolland Museum Rarities Highlight Blockbuster Collector Car Show & Auction
[2001 Ferrari 360 Modena Challenge](
[2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster]( Unique automobiles from the celebrated [Rolland Collection]( — an extraordinary museum selection of 24 custom exotics and racing cars — will cross the block during the Leake Collector Car Show and Auction, Feb. 23-24 in the Oklahoma City Bennett Event Center at State Fair Park.
Two powerhouses of the collector auction market — [Leake Auction Company]( and [Heritage Auctions]( — are joining forces to present the collection's rarities, which include Indianapolis race cars, midget race cars from the 1950's and custom hot rods. The hand-selected lots offer collectors high-performance vehicles with impeccable provenance without reserve.
"This auction is a first for Heritage Auctions," said Jim Halperin, Co-Founder of Heritage Auctions. "It's an exciting combination of Leake Auction Co.'s 45-year history in the collector car market and Heritage's Auctions' more than 1 million bidder members. This could be history in the making."
During the 1950s, William Rolland joined the Shadoff Chrysler team to help construct one of the fastest vehicles ever built. The team set the world land speed record in their class at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. Well-known among collectors and historians, Rolland assembled the collection in 2010 for his private exhibit established in Newbury Park, California. The discerning selection represents Rolland's passion for performance and speed and every vehicle offered in the auction comes directly from the museum's holdings.
Top lots include a [2001 Ferrari 360 Modena Challenge]( a purpose built factory racecar from the world greatest car manufacture, and a [2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren](. The McLaren was built as a collaboration between the multiple world championship-winning Formula 1 team and legendary auto manufacturer Mercedes-Benz AMG. With a 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of over 205 mph, the SLR is an icon of super car world.
Rolland's collection offers speedsters, such as a [1933 Ford Alloway]( and a [2006 GDT Speedster]( and an extraordinary selection of hot rods and roadsters including a [1920 Ford Model T-Bucket]( and a [1932 Ford Custom Roadster]( in a striking purple finish.
A collector's class of six midget racers including a [1947 Hillegass]( signed by racing legends Mario Andretti and Tony Stewart, a [1950 Kurtis-Kraft]( raced by Tommy Caruso and rare, [1972 Quarter Midget Dirt Track Car]( will cross the auction block.
A unique collection of Indy race cars features a [2000 Dallara]( driven by Mark Dismore and completed in all nine races of the 2000 Northern Light Series as well as a second [2000 Dallara]( driven by Scott Sharp in all nine races of the 2000 Northern Light Series. The selection also includes a [1997 Dallara with an Energizer Body]( a [1980 Grant King Race Car]( that was driven by Jim McElreath in the Indy 500 in 1979 and 1980 and a [2004 Lola B020/00 Cosworth XFE](.
A stunning [1941 Willys Coupe]( finished in a striking orange paint job with hand painted flames and powered by a 355 CI V-8 engine, is expected to generate intense bidder interest.
