Today, I want to go over the 4 COMMON MISTAKES people make when drinking water. {NAME} — we talk a lot about the optimal foods for human health in this newsletter. But there’s one thing I haven’t talked to you about much yet... And it’s actually the most essential thing you can put into your body. Because if you don't get enough of it, you could die in a matter of DAYS. What could be so important? Water. I know, I know… being told to drink water isn't the most exciting thing… But water is what keeps you alive and going! And believe it or not, there's a ton of mistakes people make when drinking water — which could lead to dehydration, fatigue, and some other nasty health consequences. So today, I’m here to talk about the most essential thing we put in our body every day. And specifically — the most common errors I see patients make when it comes to staying hydrated. Let’s dive right in!  ---------------------------------------------------------------  The 4 Common Mistakes People Make When Drinking Water WATER MISTAKE #1: Drinking too much water Yep, you CAN drink too much water… and you will actually flush out hydrating electrolytes in doing so. I’ve seen a huge number of people in my clinic who drink a lot of water before drawing blood. They can end up having very low sodium chloride and potassium levels — which leads to fatigue, cramps, and even confusion. Plus, get this: The vast majority of people who die or collapse during marathons don't die from heart attacks… They actually die from hyponatremia — AKA low sodium levels — because they're drinking water at all those refill stops rather than hydrating with electrolytes. So there is such a thing as drinking too much water. And in case you’re wondering if you REALLY need to drink 8 glasses of water every day… Well, the answer is: No, you don't. There's actually NEVER been a study that shows you should drink 8 glasses of water a day. In fact, if you look at nature — do you think gorillas and chimpanzees drink 8 glasses of water every day? Truth is, they don't drink much water at all. They actually get most of their water by eating leaves and fruits that contain the water… And if you eat lots of organic lettuces and vegetables, you're actually using the plant’s filtration system to get healthy water into you. WATER MISTAKE #2: Drinking the WRONG carbonated water Carbonated water actually acidifies the water — which is not good. In Italy, carbonated waters have to be pH balanced by law so that they're a normal pH. No other country has that law, including the United States. But if you’re here in the States, my favorite carbonated water here is San Pellegrino. I have no relationship with them, but I drink it all the time. Why? Well for starters, its pH balance. It has a pH of 7.0 — which is great, because it means it's perfectly neutral… Meaning it won't disrupt your body's natural pH balance, making it gentle and safe for daily use. San Pellegrino also has the highest sulfur content of any bottled water. Sulfur is incredibly important for making hydrogen sulfide, which is one of the key postbiotic gasses that improves your blood vessels and brain… And you can get sulfur by drinking San Pellegrino. Finally, San Pellegrino has actually been measured to have the lowest level of impurities of any water tested. But if you can't find San Pellegrino, or don't want to spend the money… There's a number of Italian waters on the market you can find at most grocery stores. They're easy to spot and like I said, Italian waters by law have to be pH balanced. So Italian carbonated waters are a good way to go. WATER MISTAKE #3: Drinking water from plastic bottles {NAME} — please please please avoid water in plastic bottles! There are lots of reasons for this, but the two most compelling ones are that plastic bottles release a chemical called phthalates into the water… And phthalates are one of the worst endocrine disruptors that have ever been discovered. Endocrine disruptors change how signals from hormones are interpreted… Which can result in some very scary side effects. Second, the vast majority of microplastics you consume come from plastic water bottles. Microplastics disrupt your microbiome and are associated with increased risk of strokes and heart attacks. Yikes! So please avoid water in plastic bottles. Instead, get yourself a glass bottle or a stainless steel bottle. They're easy to find, easy to carry, and there's bunches of insulated ones now on the market. Just do yourself a favor and get rid of your plastic bottles! They’re convenient, but deadly for reasons you can't feel or see. WATER MISTAKE #4: Drinking tap water STOP drinking tap water! There are toxins in our water, like fluoride and chlorine. What about water filters? Well, I'm not a paid spokesman for them — but a Brita water filter will work just fine. There’s also a number of reverse osmosis filters on the market that are either freestanding or can be built-in. Because of their popularity, they're getting more and more affordable… So if you can find one and can afford it, get a reverse osmosis filter. I have one in my office and at home. But keep in mind: You CAN over filter water. Some people take this to the extreme and buy distilled water or distill their own water. The problem with that is, water should have some valuable electrolytes in it… And if you distill your water, it strips away all the good electrolytes, minerals, and micronutrients. Now if you DO go this route — consider adding a multimineral supplement to your daily regimen… Particularly sodium, potassium chloride, and magnesium. And that’s it! Those are the 4 big mistakes people make when it comes to drinking water. Keep these in mind, and it will really help keep everything in your body running smoothly. Remember to stay hydrated, {NAME}! 🙂 Looking out for you, Steven Gundry, MD [Steven Gundry, MD] P.S. Getting the correct amount of water daily can help keep everything in your entire body working the way it should. But if you find it hard to get your daily water intake, try adding a drink supplement that actually tastes good. I'm partial to our red berry-flavored [Vital Reds]( formula, or chocolate-flavored [ProPlant Complete Shake](. Vital Reds is packed with energy-boosting polyphenols, while ProPlant is formulated with strength-boosting plant-based protein… And they’re both excellent for helping you stay hydrated. I hope you enjoyed these tips {NAME}, and have a wonderful rest of your day!   This email was sent to {EMAIL} by newsletter@gundrymd.com [Edit Profile]( | [Manage Subscriptions]( | [VIP Discounts]( | [Join Text Club]( 145 S.
