We can’t wait for you to learn more about our next round of grantees! [Groundwork Project] I wanted to make sure you saw our latest round of Groundwork Grantees. Each of these groups is organizing year-round in their community and fighting tooth and nail for democracy, justice, and equity in the toughest states on the map. You can learn more about them below. This marks a really exciting milestone for our organization. Since launching the Groundwork Organizer Grant Program a year ago, we have committed over $2 million to local organizers across Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma and West Virginia. This is all thanks to supporters like you, who have believed in our mission from the start. With this latest round of grantees, our Organizer Grant Program community has grown to 20 organizations strong – five in each of our partner states. Our grantees represent organizing at its best and brightest. They are majority BIPOC and woman-led. They focus on everything from reproductive justice to criminal legal reform and the climate crisis. They organize across race and class, from rural Alabama to the hills of West Virginia. They do this work far from the spotlight, with a lack of resources that would deter fainter hearts, with a resolve forged in communities that are used to being passed by and written off. They are everything our politics needs more of and we are continuously humbled to play a small part in the work they do. That wouldn’t be possible without your support. [Alabama] [Political Healers]( Political Healers Project — The Political Healers Project provides training and political education, leadership development, radical hospitality, healing, and trauma-informed practices. Their Climate Mitigation and Community Resilience Project helps establish networks for long-term climate resilience in rural Alabama, politicizing and mobilizing participants to act at the local level. It builds healing and relationship-centered grassroots bases to develop and mobilize women of color, trans, genderqueer and nonbinary people to impact public space. [website]( [instagram]( [facebook]( [Mississippi] [Mississippi Center for Re-Entry]( Mississippi Center for Re-Entry — MS Center for Re-Entry’s mission is to make access to second chances a reality by providing reentry services to those who desire a second chance and to advocate for change within our criminal justice system by being the voice for the voiceless. In 2019 and 2020 the organization created an initiative to register formerly incarcerated individuals to vote in Desoto County, MS. [website]( [instagram]( [facebook]( [Oklahoma] [Lets Fix This]( Let’s Fix This — Let’s Fix This works to equip and educate all Oklahomans to actively engage with their government by making government and civic life more interesting, accessible, useful, and easier to understand for regular, everyday folks. Through the Oklahoma Civic Engagement Table, nonprofits across the state collaborate to; increase civic engagement, remove barriers to voting access, ensure representation, and achieve racial equity in the progressive community. Let’s Fix This also produces a podcast about Oklahoma politics and engages a strong bench of volunteers and community leaders. [website]( [instagram]( [facebook]( [OK Civic Learning Coalition]( Oklahoma Civic Learning Coalition — OK Civic Learning Coalition’s mission is to advance civic education and democratic engagement in Oklahoma. It does this by convening a broad range of stakeholders committed to building support for innovative legislation, funding, and policies that facilitate high quality and equitable learning opportunities for students, teachers, and the wider public, while bringing about a multi-racial democracy. [website]( [instagram]( [facebook]( [Red Dirt Collective]( Red Dirt Collective — Red Dirt Collective works in solidarity with the poor and working class of Norman to build permanent institutions of coordinated working class power. The Collective organizes with poor and working people where they live, where they work, and where they meet each other. They participate heavily in municipal elections, while Red Dirt’s policy shop creates, illustrates, distributes, and promotes policy papers. [website]( [instagram]( [facebook]( [West Virginia] [Olive Tree] Olive Tree Initiative — Olive Tree Initiative provides re-entry and transformative direct services for currently and formerly incarcerated people. Its goal is to build a political structure that will impact the laws and policies in the state of West Virginia. Olive Tree works to meet the needs of the incarcerated and simultaneously creates a grassroots political organization composed of friends and families of the formerly and currently incarcerated. With a focus on Appalachia, the Deep South, and the Plains, we support local advocates and activists working to build durable political infrastructure and secure power for those historically excluded.
