--------------------------------------------------------------- June 2022 News Roundup We’re already six months into the election year, {NAME} – and the work we do here at Groundwork is not slowing down. As we head into Pride and Immigrant Heritage month, I wanted to be sure you had the rundown on the work we are pushing in our partner states. We won’t let anything distract us from our mission: uplifting and sending resources to hyperlocal organizations working with their communities to make lasting political change. Our team of grantees and partner states are heading into a strenuous summer and we want to make sure they have what they need to support overlooked communities in Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma and West Virginia. [{NAME}, can we count on you to give $25 so we can keep our support headed their way?]( Learn more about what our partners are going up against this summer in our June News Roundup below. Thanks, Joe Kennedy Founder --------------------------------------------------------------- News You Should Know --------------------------------------------------------------- With the Supreme Court’s decision on Roe v. Wade up in the air, countless abortion clinics across the nation are left in limbo, including in Groundwork Project’s partner state, Oklahoma. Just last month, the state legislature and governor officially passed one of the most restrictive bans on safe abortion care in the nation. Soon pregnant people in Oklahoma (and surrounding states) will no longer be able to seek legal care beginning after ‘fertilization’ and private citizens of the state will be free to ‘enforce’ the law through civil litigation. [Learn MORE HERE]( Mississippi had their primary elections yesterday! But officials in the state have been powerful in suppressing votes with one tactic in particular – Mississippi state officials have changed polling locations 70 times since 2020. In an attempt to confuse and undermine voters, this Republican-led legislature made sure to put up more obstacles and does not even provide an up-to-date, comprehensive list or database of voting precincts to the public. [read more here]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Take Action --------------------------------------------------------------- Looking for a way to take action on repro rights? Join Groundwork Grantee, SHERo next Friday, June 17, 2022 for the Abortion Freedom Fighters Decision Day Rally! [RSVP HERE]( Do you live in Alabama or know someone who does? Join March for Our Lives Alabama this Saturday, June 11th at Kelly Ingram Park for a demonstration and call on your elected officials to take action on gun violence. [GET INFO HERE]( Did you know June 16th is the last day to request an absentee ballot in AL? Check out this Tweet from Alabama Values to get all the voting info you need and make your plan to vote! [LEARN MORE]( --------------------------------------------------------------- >Founded by Joe Kennedy III, Groundwork Project invests in year-round, local community organizing in places Democrats have gotten used to writing off. With a focus on Appalachia, the Deep South, and the Plains, we support local advocates and activists working to build durable political infrastructure and secure power for those historically excluded. [CONTRIBUTE]( Individual contributions will be allocated as follows: $5,000 per calendar year to a bank account that operates as a Federal PAC, and the remainder to the Non-Contribution Account of our PAC. --------------------------------------------------------------- We want to respect your boundaries while keeping you informed.
