While it's true that the primary rule for leap years is the addition of a day (February 29th) to the calendar every 4 years to account for the fact that the Earth takes approximately 365.25 days to complete its orbit around the Sun, there are exceptions to this rule to ensure the calendar remains aligned with Earth's orbits over long periods. The full set of rules for determining a leap year is more nuanced: - A year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4. - However, if the year is also divisible by 100, it is not a leap year, unless: - The year is also divisible by 400, in which case it is a leap year. This means that years like 1600 and 2000 were leap years, as they are divisible by 400, but years like 1700, 1800, and 1900 were not leap years, despite being divisible by 4, because they are not divisible by 400.
