The color of a goldfish is determined primarily by its genetics and breed, not by the lighting conditions of its environment. Goldfish come in various colors and color patterns, such as orange, red, white, black, yellow, and combinations of these colors. These color variations are a result of selective breeding over many generations to produce different color morphs and patterns. The pigment responsible for the orange, red, or yellow coloration in goldfish is called carotenoid. Carotenoid is present in the skin and scales of goldfish and is responsible for the vibrant colors we commonly associate with these fish. Keeping a goldfish in a dark room will not cause it to turn white. However, the lighting conditions can affect the appearance of a goldfish to some extent. For example, goldfish exposed to natural sunlight or bright artificial light may exhibit more vibrant colors due to the way light interacts with their pigments. Conversely, goldfish kept in low-light conditions might appear duller or less colorful. To maintain the health and well-being of a goldfish, it is essential to provide a suitable environment with appropriate lighting, water quality, and nutrition.
