Thomas Massie (R-KY) registered his dissent at the podium. "There's some of us who feel that,â Massie declared, âintentionally, or unintentionally, this legislation to ban TikTok is actually a âtrojan horseâ.â âThe so-called TikTok ban," would give the President the power to "ban websites" not just apps. Massie: We are concerned that there are First Amendment implications here. Americans have the right to view information, and don't need to be protected by the government from information. If you think this isnât a Trojan horse and will only apply to TikTok and foreign-adversary social media companies, then contemplate why someone thought it was important to get a very specific exclusion for their internet based business written into the bill⦠Massie included on X a picture of the portion of the bill that excludes certain unnamed  companies from the ban: Geez, who might that be? Massieâs concern is the fact that the bill leaves it up to the executive branch to determine exactly âwhoâ would be excluded from the ban... and who wouldnât be. âThis is both a free speech issue and a matter of limited government vs. legislative overreach that appears to set the stage for widespread abuse,â writes a commenter on Zero Hedge, who is covering the bill as it makes its way through Congress.  âTikTok isnât going to be banned,â Sean Davis of the Federalist posted on X, âbecause neither the CCP-run Chinese government nor the CCP-owned U.S. government wants to lose such a valuable tool for spying on Americans and poisoning the minds of their children. Instead, the corrupt U.S. intelligence bureaucracy wants control of TikTok, which is why it included the divestment mandate.â With the majority vote in the House, the TikTok ban now moves on to the Senate where it is expected to also pass with bi-partisan support. Today, weâre picking up on a theme. [Click here to learn about 2024âs real October Election Surprise »]( Itâs not at all what you think. CONTINUED... We were amused when the Biden administration tried to establish its own âministry of truthâ several years ago. The Orwellian âDisinformation Governance Boardâ (DGB) was rather ill-fated from the beginning. Theâadvisoryâ board was established by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on April 27, 2022. Its official purpose was âto protect national security by disseminating guidance to DHS agencies on combating misinformation, malinformation, and disinformation that threatens the security of the homeland.â Secretary of the DHS, Alejandro Mayorkas, was the spokesperson responsible for dictating solutions to âspecific problem areasâ of âfalse information propagated by human smugglers encouraging migrants to surge to the MexicoâUnited States border, as well as Russian-state disinformation on election interference and the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.â At least, thatâs the official DHS version posted on the Wiki page dedicated to the boardâs intentions. As innocuous as those intentions were professed to be, its establishment raised the ire of many a free speech advocate and civil libertarian. Notably the âanti-vax mandateâ crowd. Government and private sector collusion? We remember at the time interviewing a friend of ours for the Wiggin Sessions. Jeff Hays, who also makes documentary films, had raised the money for, helped write, and then directed a doc about Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.âs book âThe Real Anthony Fauci.â As you can imagine, Kennedyâs book was critical of Dr. Fauciâs role leading up to and during the pandemic. Kennedy has long been suspicious of vaccine mandates and, before launching his 2024 presidential campaign, served as chairman of the Childrenâs Health Defense Fund, an influential anti-vaccine organization. During the pandemic, the fund accused the United States government, including Dr. Fauci, of supporting research on a vaccine as part of a plan to increase revenues for the pharmaceutical industry. The interview we did with Hays was about the making of the film, mostly, because thatâs what I was interested in at the time. But then⦠the interview became the first of our Wiggin Sessions to be removed from YouTube because of sensitive content Jeff and I discussed. The issue of government censorship was hot, hot, hot at the time. A couple weeks after it was established, on May 18, the Disinformation Governance Board was put on âpause.â Board head Nina Jankowicz stepped down in the face of public scrutiny. Then, on August 24, the DHS officially pulled the plug, disbanding the board altogether.  Itâs hard for us to think the TikTok ban isnât an attempt to write into law what the executive branch sought to achieve with its board of disinformation. âEvery right the government has ever taken away was removed under the false pretense of national security,â RFK, Jr. commented on the TikTok âbanâ (which we noted yesterday). âRemember that [now] when members of Congress give Joe Biden the power to remove any app from your phone.â So it goes, Addison Wiggin, The Wiggin Sessions P.S. Elon Musk, of the oft-criticized X, has also spoken out against the TikTok ban over free-speech concerns. Yesterday, he made headlines for canceling a deal with Don Lemon, a former CNN host who had been fired from the network for saying on air that Nikki Hailey was âpast her prime.â Lemon was ready to launch a new network using X as a distribution platform. Musk granted an interview with Lemon as part of the run-up to the launch. During the interview Lemon pressed Musk on his âfree-speechâ views, specifically about allowing white supremacists to conduct âhate speechâ on the platform. Musk canceled his involvement with Lemon, suggesting the idea for Lemonâs show was âbasically CNN on Xâ which he no longer agreed to support. Lemon is still free to use X like any other contributor.  P.P.S. A well-meaning reader, Bill D, also pointed out the X post that Musk commented on regarding Bidenâs directive to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency. Musk began his post âTreason Indeed!â with the comment that the Biden administration was âimporting voters.â Reader Bill says the plan to fly 320,000 undocumented workers to 43 U.S. cities has been disproven as a âright wingâ trope. And [provided this article on Snopes.com as proof:]( Hereâs the meat of Snopesâ conclusion: The CIS report, and its assertions, gained significant exposure when the Daily Mail covered it and Elon Musk shared the Daily Mail article on X (formerly known as Twitter). Former U.S. President Donald Trump also repeated the claim in his Super Tuesday victory speech on March 5, 2024. The central assertions made by Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), a conservative think tank, repeated by the Daily Mail or others, were that: - A Biden administration program was responsible for flying 320,000 migrants directly into the United States between January and December 2023. (True) - The program was a secret whose details were discovered by an outside group. (False) - The program allowed unvetted aliens to enter the United States. (False) - The U.S. government admitted that the program was a national-security risk. (False) - Such a program could affect U.S. politics by altering voter demographics. (False) Of these five claims, only the first was true. P.P.S. âI'm still waiting for an expose,â Bill also writes âof the profit made from refilling the Strategic Petroleum Reserve at lower prices. Oh, and your coverage of the budget submitted to Congress that cuts the deficit by $3 trillion.â âNah, you've got axes to grind and aren't interested in honest reporting,â he concludes. Billâs convinced weâre cherry-picking news items to âreportâ in our daily missives because weâre running a secret campaign to pander to you⦠a pro-Trump reader. What do you think?
