Spring is a lesson in patience. Even for impatient gardeners. March 4, 2024 Â Â Spring is a lesson

Spring is a lesson in patience. Even for impatient gardeners. [GreenPrints]( March 4, 2024   [Spring is Just a Big Tease]( Spring is a lesson in patience. Even for impatient gardeners.  Hello, gardeners! March is both a favorite and frustrating month for us gardeners. This month officially welcomes Spring, that mythical season of birds singing, bunnies hopping across green meadows, and delicate raindrops dripping from the thriving seedlings in our gardens. For some of us, this might be reality. For the rest of us? Early spring can be wet, cold, and windy. [Humor Collection]( Cloudy skies remind us that the first three weeks of March are still winter. And yet, we look forward to those first tulips poking through the cold soil. We anticipate digging into the soil to sow seeds and to transplant our seedlings. We look forward to our colorful perennials bringing life to our yard. So we wait. We wait, perhaps patiently at first. Some of us are good at this. Some of us are not so good, and we get antsy. We start wondering if we started our seeds too soon or too late. A warm day comes along and we gather our bags of soil, our spades, our mulch. The next day is cold and we sigh. Then two or maybe three warm days. The soil is almost warm enough to work! Of course, Spring is such a tease. We never know for sure when those warm days will just continue into summer or if we’re due for a surprise snow storm. If any of this sounds familiar, I think you’ll love this story from Andi Yates. “Spring’s Teasing Dance: Impatience in the Garden of Waiting” is something I believe many of us can relate to. Andi waits not so patiently “surrounded by mislabeled sprouts in a laundry room turned seed-starting sanctuary.” As she faces an “existential crisis over tomato starts,” her family tries with little success to understand the situation. Ultimately, though, it’s not Andi’s family that helps her make sense of the situation. There’s something she missed. Something delicate and barely distinguishable in her frozen yard. You can find out what Andi missed (and what, perhaps, many of us miss) when you read “Spring’s Teasing Dance: Impatience in the Garden of Waiting.” Or! You can also listen to the story, wonderfully read and recorded by our own Amanda MacArthur. Enjoy this story on your neighborhood walk, while you’re working in your own garden, or on the go! [YES, SIGN ME UP FOR JUST $10 FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR!]( There’s so much more in the March 2024 edition of GreenPrints Magazine. We’ll head to the International Space Station for a news story about tomatoes. The best science teacher on the planet, Becky Rupp, shares some fantastic facts about the intelligence of plants. Mike McGrath entertains us with another of his hilarious stories. GreenPrints’ founding editor Pat Stone takes us to the garden for some gardening and life gems. And, naturally, there are tasty recipes that come straight from the garden. Don’t miss out on your printable books, ArtPrints, and Calendar Kits, either! Along with “Spring’s Teasing Dance: Impatience in the Garden of Waiting,” here’s a sample of what’s growing in the March 2024 issue of GreenPrints Magazine: - “The Great Tomato Caper: A Space Odyssey.” – Apparently, tomatoes are a hot commodity on the International Space Station, especially when they get misplaced! - “Are Plants Smart?” – Think about this much and it’s a downright creepy question. I mean, consider what we do to plants. We prune them, mow them, cage them, tie them to poles and fences, pick parts of them and eat them, and uproot them and toss them on the compost pile. - “The Confessions of a Serial Seedling Killer.” – It happens to us all. But some gardeners might want to rethink the idea of starting seeds. - “Magnolia Melodies: A Blooming Journey through American Gardens.” – In the enchanting realm of American horticulture, where petals compose verses and leaves whisper tales of yore, one floral crescendo echoes through the ages—the magnolia. - “Circle of Joy: A Carousel and Mint-Tea Tale.” – Melissa Horst takes us back to a time when she and her sisters raced barefoot over dandelion-gilded grass. - “A Garden Grows in the Ballpark.” – Ah, the first daffodil of the season—nature’s way of saying, "Wake up, it's Spring!" But in this author’s world, it's more like the daffodils saying, "Watch out, we're ready for another round of wiffle ball!" - “A Guide to Plant Companionship.” – Planting a rosebush goes beyond the simple act of placing it in the soil—it's a delicate symphony orchestrated by nature. - “Cultivating Luck.” – If you've ever wished for a garden brimming with luck, look no further than the ancient art of growing luck with the help of a leprechaun—especially the elusive and skilled female leprechauns. - NEW!
