The tomato seedlings at my local garden shop sell out faster than you can say “heirloom,” which means you either need to start your tomatoes from seeds or stand watch in anticipation of tomato release day. They’re magnificent plants, too. Tomatoes can easily grow six-feet tall or more, and the fruits themselves come in every imaginable color, from the bright red hue of a Roma tomato to the deep shades of the Cherokee Purple to the appropriately-named Green Zebra tomato, with dark green stripes layered over a lighter green skin. [Humor Collection]( Tomatoes can also be a bit challenging to grow. You have to trim the suckers, make sure the plants have plenty of vertical support, keep your eyes peeled for the dastardly Tomato Hornworm, and ensure your neighbor doesn’t decide to erect a fence that will block their sunlight. (I’m kidding. My neighbor doesn’t garden much, but he loves the tomatoes we share.) Clarence Boucher loves tomatoes, too.
