Dear Gardener, I couldn’t help but think of Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” when I wrote the title to this. Will I attempt to write this entire email to the tune? Probably not. Are the two at all related? Also no, aside from having the same number of syllables. Still, there “must be…7 ways to use your tote bag.” And even though Paul Simon does not, in fact, list 50 ways to leave your lover in his hit song, I do intend to list 7 ways you can use your GreenPrints tote bag, some of which I hope you’ll find pretty fun. Why the appreciation of tote bags? It’s possible that I went to the grocery store the other day and decided I didn’t need a bag. And it’s possible I was fine until I got back to my car with my hands full of groceries and my keys buried deep in my pocket. Could I juggle a carton of milk, one dozen eggs, a bag of rice, and a few other necessities? All while digging my car keys out? I’ll save you the suspense and say no, I could not. I did manage to make it home with 10 eggs, though, so I’ll take that as a win! [Tote]( Needless to say, I learned my lesson, and will plan to bring my GreenPrints tote bag with me next time. Pretty sure that one was part vampire given how quickly it disintegrated. Then there was the really nice white wool bag, but what was I thinking? A few spilled strawberries and that thing was done for! I suppose you could call that one user error, but what did they think I was going to do with a tote bag? Use it to harvest vegetables. If you have a veggie garden, a tote bag is perfect for harvesting root vegetables like beets, carrots, potatoes, or radishes. I also use mine to harvest sturdier above-ground veggies like peas and green beans. [Tote]( 3. Picnic basket. Here’s another favorite. As much as I love the idea of a cute wicker picnic basket, the reality is that most of my picnics involve throwing some sandwiches and apples into a bag, along with a bottle of water or maybe a strawberry lemonade. And I can easily fit all those things in a tote bag along with a blanket to sit on. 4. Emergency kit. From blizzards to hurricanes to a plague of locusts, you never know when you’ll need an emergency kit. [Tote]( What goes in there? That’s up to you, but at least a flashlight, fresh batteries, matches, first aid kit, non-perishable food, and some water. And what better place to keep it all together than a tote bag? 5. Carry-on bag for air travel. Why worry about whether your bag will make it onto the plane when you can be sure a tote bag is small enough to fit in the overhead compartment? Plus, it’s nice and easy to grab your favorite book or notebook without unzipping and opening a large suitcase. 6. Toys. Preschoolers, dogs, my husband (just kidding dear! Or am i?) – they all tend to leave toys all over the place. And tote bags are an easy solution for taking a quick stroll around and tossing everything into one spot. 7. Wardrobe help. I don’t know about you, but I never know quite what to do with things like winter stocking caps, scarves, and gloves. The same goes for summer gear like my gardening gloves and sun visors.
