Assistant Dean / Associate Professor (361) 593 2369 ----- Dear Parents and Guardians, It really is the most wonderful time of the year. At this time, and always, I am so grateful to be a part of this community and the lives of our children and families. I thank you for your generosity in so many ways. I see the Advent service lists fill up in a blink and the Winter Relief lists equally as fast; I see our children caroling out in the community; I watch our teachers in action; I hear about our 8th graders serving dinner at Sarah’s House; and then you ask, what more can we do? Our hearts overflow with the love that surrounds us at home and here at St. John. With that love growing more each moment, we look to the coming of Jesus in 11 days, and the knowledge that the love we give and receive here is magnified by the love that we are given from God every day. Have a blessed week! Dress is Christmas best, please no jeans and no sneakers. This will give your children an opportunity to wear these clothes an extra time this year! Bring your SJE LOVE with you wherever you go this holiday season! We are really showing our SJE LOVE near and far! I love seeing the pictures and can’t wait to see where the Christmas holiday will take our LOVE! Wherever you go on the weekends or over the holidays, take your St. John love logo with you. Take a picture of you with the logo that came home with every student today and email it to Mrs. Sirinakis, along with a short description of where you went and what you did. We can’t wait to see where our St. John love will go! End of Year Giving for SJE The end of the year is a great time for giving at St. John, for all non-profits, for all of us who strive to make this world better and better each day. How do we do this at SJE? You know! By teaching children and nurturing their talents, by igniting creative thinking and inviting collaboration and teamwork, by understanding that our children today are the leaders of our world tomorrow. We LOVE our school, and we ask you to support us in making our corner of the world better for our children in your end of year giving, starting today. Please use this link to share your giving LOVE with SJE! Want to be a science fair judge? St. John the Evangelist will be hosting its 20th annual science fair on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. We are looking for parents, grandparents, college students, etc. to help judge our 7th and 8th grade projects. We will have one judging session from 8:30 am-12:00 pm. Sign up is available at this link. If you have any questions, please email Kerri Donovan at kojedonovan@verizon.net. Family Mass for Christmas On Christmas Eve we will celebrate a Family Mass at 4pm in the auditorium. The Children’s Choir will lead us in song. The homily will be geared toward children, yet meaningful for adults. We need many youth and families to take an active part as Greeters, Lectors, Ushers and Gift Bearers. Families will also be needed to distribute bulletins, books and gifts for children after the Mass. If you are interested in helping, please contact John Poland at jpoland@stjohnsp.org or 410 647-4892. Play Like a Champion Parent Note for December Although some of the points here have been considered in previous notes, I encourage you to read down to the three points for parents’ perspective in youth sports. I like the idea of thinking about quality instead of quantity especially. It can be difficult in a score-driven arena! Read the article here. Winter Relief for the Homeless of AA County Thank you to all who signed up to make lunches for our Winter Relief program. All of our school slots are filled, but please check the parish website and bulletin for more ways you can support this program. Advent Adoration at SJE Come and adore Our Lord in the Eucharist every Friday at St. John this Advent. Sign up here for an hour or more. Encounter Him…and it’ll change everything. Don't forget to follow us on Facebook and Instagram! Make sure you "like" or “heart” Saint John the Evangelist School, Severna Park, on Facebook and Instagram (saintjohntheevangelist) for updates, reminders, and great pictures and stories about our school. Make sure to choose SHARE when you like what you see, and help us shine our light out into the world! Precious in God’s eyes and like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house. 1 Peter 2:5 ----- 6 th December 2017 Dear parent/guardian NEW YORK OCTOBER 2018 During October half term 2018, there is the opportunity for students to attend a fantastic school trip to New York City. The trip will depart from Newcastle Airport on Friday 19th October 2018 and return on Tuesday 23rd October. Whilst in New York, pupils will have the opportunity to visit some of the cities iconic attractions such as: the Empire State Building, Times Square and the Statue of Liberty and they will also watch a Broadway show. There is also opportunity for the group to explore in Central Park and we will also fit in some shopping time. The cost of the trip will be £1000 and includes the following: • Return flights to and from New York from Newcastle • Airport Transfers • Three night’s hotel accommodation with breakfast in the centre of Manhattan • Visits to the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Empire State building and the 911 Memorial • Tickets to a Broadway show (exact show TBC) • All meals If you would like your child to be involved in the trip, I request that a non-refundable deposit is paid to secure your child’s place. This will be £100 and payable by Monday 18th December 2017 to Cardinal Hume School. Flexible payment will be available during the remainder of the school year with the final balance due 12 weeks before departure. It is essential that your child has a valid passport for travel in October. In the unlikely event that we do not meet the minimum number of pupils to travel deposits will be returned. We are pleased to inform you that Cardinal Hume Catholic School now has the facility to accept online payments for trips and other school activities. We thank you in advance for your support in using this service to pay for your child’s educational visit. May I also take this opportunity to remind all parents that it is crucial that those students participating in the trip can be trusted to behave in a responsible and mature way. As the leader of the visit, I have to be confident that those taking part do not jeopardise the safety and enjoyment of the trip for others. Students are also reminded that they will be representing the school during the visit, and it is therefore essential that they behave appropriately. With this in mind, I will be closely monitoring the behaviour in school of those students involved in the visit. If any student is considered to have the potential to jeopardise the success of the visit, then I am afraid that they will be unable to participate and their places will be offered to other students and deposits will not be refunded. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the trip, do not hesitate to contact me at school. Thank you in advance for your support of what promises to be an excellent visit and opportunity for our pupils. Yours sincerely Miss A.
