Hi {NAME}, I hope all is well for you in New York. Hi {NAME}, Walking has always been my sanctuary -- a way to reset and get a breath of fresh air. Long Island has so many beautiful places to walk, and I try to get to as many as I can. Lately, the autumn weather has been unpredictable, oscillating between warm and cold with unsettling frequency. This year, Long Island has also witnessed more frequent heavy rains and floods, which may be one of the reasons we have seen so many acorns on the ground during our walks. The heavy rains, the surge in acorns, the unseasonably warm days -- all are part of the story of climate change. Arborists have reported that the stress inflicted on trees by unpredictable weather can push them to produce massive acorn drops like we are witnessing this year. Here in Suffolk County, surrounded by water, we live in one of the most beautiful parts of the country -- and one where climate change threatens our way of life.
Protecting our communities from the harms of a warming planet requires action now -- to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and to make our infrastructure more resilient. We need leaders who understand the urgency, and the possibilities, for dealing with climate change. That's why I'm running for U.S. Congress in NY-01. With the recent elections, I took time to support our local candidates, which means we now have more work to do to meet our November fundraising goals. If we raise $6,700 today, we'll be on track to ensure the people of Long Island have a climate champion working for them in Congress. Every step we take toward building climate-resilient communities matters. Today, I ask you to take a step with me toward that future here on Long Island.
