And while there’s still a vital role for these initiatives, we also need efforts that focus on majority groups to enable them to become allies and take action. This is why in London, Google launched Inclusivity Builder, which is aimed at mobilizing the majority group. It’s an employee-driven diagnostic tool for self-reflection that helps people understand where they’re starting from and what steps to take first. We use it Googler to Googler, across the company in the U.K. — all you need is the worksheet, a pen, and 10 minutes to begin. It’s a great starting point for diversity and inclusion work, as it helps you see your own identity in context. Understanding this — in terms of allyship, in-group, out-group, and privilege — is a key first step. People are able to identify an area of focus and begin the journey toward affecting positive change. These focus areas can be built into development plans and performance reviews, which can help tie individual contributions within an organization to its wider diversity and inclusion goals. And because of the difference it’s made to our teams, we’ve decided to share it externally with the wider world. [How marketers can make way for the multicultural mainstream]() THINK GLOBAL Compared to men, women in sports only see 7% of the world’s corporate sponsorship. But around the world, audiences are hungry to see women in sports succeeding. Over the past five years, average weekly searches for “women’s team” are 50% higher than “men’s team.” And it’s not just about gold and glory. People connect with women athletes who are relatable and inspiring. Amplifying female voices in women’s sports has immense potential value for brands — not just financially but also in terms of what it signals for gender equality. By sharing such stories, brands can use their platforms to raise awareness and reach wider audiences.
