Gold experienced downward pressure all week on stronger-than-expected economic data and the resulting surge in Treasury yields and the US Dollar. Tuesday's CPI print came in hotter than expected, implying that the overheated inflation of the early 2020s hasn't been beaten just yet. Markets came to grips with the fact that the Fed will likely not ease interest rates in 2023 and may even have to re-accelerate their hiking curve. As a result, US Treasury yields launched a major rally, and the Dollar strengthened, putting in their best week of 2023 so far, sending gold in the other direction. But despite this downward pressure, gold has managed to maintain a fairly strong support level in the $1,830 - $1,840 range to close in the green on Friday afternoon at $1,842.64.
