After six consecutive days of stock market gains, it is unique that gold also closed in the positive. Even in the face of such headwinds, the precious metal found a strong foothold at the $1,850 marker. A sigh of relief came out of the financial sector upon the reading of the U.S. FOMC meeting minutes, which did not deviate from the stance of posting a sequential 50 basis point increase. For gold, much of the adverse reaction to the summer rate hikes may already be “baked in” to the spot price value. While there are concerns of a recession on the horizon, these are metered against the U.S. labor market, which continues to report healthy performances. To wit, the data point to watch next week for gold will be the May Jobs Report (Friday), which will put us into June and the start of summer. Gold closed at $1853.48.
