Last month, I was honored to have the opportunity to visit Uvalde, TX for the first time—just days before we watched in horror as another heartbreaking mass shooting took place in Lewiston, Maine. [Gabby standing near a memorial for children who died during the Uvalde shooting] During my visit, I had the chance to meet with many of the families whose children died or survived the shooting at Robb Elementary School. It was an emotional day as we remembered all of the innocent victims who were senselessly killed that day—some of whom didn’t even get the chance to see their 10th birthdays. Their lives mattered. Their stories mattered. And in honor of them, we cannot rest until we see a future where every community in our nation is safe from the threat of gun violence.
