Tomorrow, we’re facing our September mid-month fundraising deadline. All of our fundraising deadlines are crucial, but this mid-month deadline is especially important. That’s because in just a couple weeks, we’re facing our quarterly fundraising deadline. Our gun lobby adversaries will be scouring our Q3 numbers for any signs of weakness. After a slow summer of fundraising, we really need your support to have a strong showing. The gun lobby may be losing some of their influence, especially with NRA membership in decline. But their hold on many extreme politicians will not go away overnight. Many right-wing politicians refuse to act on gun violence out of fear of backlash from the gun lobby. But that fear is nothing in comparison to what a child feels when a shooter enters their school, raining bullets down on them and their classmates. It’s nothing in comparison to what a parent who is praying to be reunited with their child after a mass shooting must feel. Just yesterday, we watched as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was on lockdown due to an active shooter—less than three weeks after a gunman shot and killed a UNC faculty member on campus. This is unacceptable. Apathy is not an option. We have to raise a lot to help elect new leaders and beat the NRA’s hold on our Congress. Our preparations to hold our gun safety Senate majority and elect gun safety champions at all levels of government in 2024 are well underway.
