Texans deserve better than Governor Greg Abbott

More than 31,000 Texans have died from gun violence since Greg Abbott took office. More than 31,000 Texans have died from gun violence since Greg Abbott took office in 2015. It’s a massive failure of leadership. And if that isn’t alarming enough, here’s what Governor Abbott was doing just hours after the most recent tragedy in Allen, TX on Saturday. On Monday morning he went to talk about border security, criticize President Joe Biden and appear live on Fox News. A few hours later he was breaking ground on a new Tesla facility with Elon Musk. Never once did he mention the tragedy in Allen. It’s shameful that elected leaders like Greg Abbott are turning a blind eye and pretending these tragedies aren’t happening. We can’t just keep looking away and pretending like this isn’t happening in our neighborhoods, in our churches, in our grocery stores, or in our schools. We need leaders who will tackle this issue head on and fight for commonsense solutions that will save lives. But instead, politicians like Greg Abbott are checking off the gun lobby’s wish list and making it EASIER for violent criminals to access firearms. It’s no wonder Texas’s gun death rate rose 7% just last year. We can save lives from gun violence in Texas and nationwide, but only if we elect leaders who care more about public safety than gun lobby profits.
