Enough is enough. Our hearts are broken and we are enraged after tragedy has struck again, this time at an elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee. Our nation’s schools should be among the safest places in our communities. But today, Covenant School in Nashville turned into the scene of a nightmare. This morning, a woman armed with two assault rifles and a handgun entered the school. Within a matter of minutes, the shooter opened fire and killed at least three students and three teachers. These victims are young children, {NAME}. Children of preschool age to sixth grade. And now countless other kids and their parents will live with the trauma that comes with experiencing a mass shooting. Our children deserve better. Our teachers shouldn’t have to feel unsafe in their place of work. When will our nation have the courage to stand up and take action to keep our communities and our children safe from gun violence? There are now families in Nashville who will have to find a way forward without their children who were robbed from them by a senseless act of violence. Violence that could have been prevented if our elected leaders in Congress had the courage to act. They join a community who understands this kind of tragedy all too well. Whether it be Sandy Hook, Parkland, or any of the other countless communities who have experienced the tragedy of a school shooting. But now we must ask ourselves: What will we do? What will we do to stop this from ever happening again? For us at Giffords, the answer is clear. We will continue demanding more change from our elected officials and will not rest until we see a future free from gun violence. Thank you for standing with us in this struggle.
