Sharing some reflections with you

My life was altered nearly 12 years ago when a gunman tried to take my life at what should have been a chance to interact with my constituents. [Photo of medevac scene after Gabby was shot in 2011]( The bullet damaged the left hemisphere of my brain, where the language function sits. Nobody was sure if I’d ever be able to walk or talk again. But with a lot of hard work and determination, I’ve defied the odds and am able to do things nobody thought would be possible. [Photo of Gabby playing the French horn]( It’s been a challenge, but I’ve never given up on my recovery. I dedicate myself to physical therapy, speech therapy, and even yoga. Because even though the actions of a gunman have made it more difficult for me to speak, I have so much to say. The gun lobby will try to drown us out. They will use their lies, money, and influence. But we have something special. We have a movement filled with people like you—people who are ready to change the status quo because they are sick and tired of seeing lives lost due to our nation’s gun violence epidemic. This year, Congress passed the most significant gun safety legislation in decades. During the midterm elections, we elected leaders up and down the ballot with the courage to act. Although the strides we’ve made towards a future free from gun violence are significant, we must keep moving forward. There’s still a lot more work to be done.
