An LGBTQ nightclub is meant to be a safe space to let go, dance with friends, and meet new people. But instead, a gunman filled with hatred opened fire in the venue, taking the lives of five innocent people and injuring at least 18 more. This act of gun violence is a devastating attack on the LGBTQ community. No one should fear for their lives because of who they are or who they love. Guns have made it too easy for people motivated by hate to turn what should have been a night of celebration into a night of tragedy. Gun violence is not new to our Colorado communities. We’ve seen it in Boulder, Aurora, and Columbine. Now the state has been rocked by yet another senseless massacre. The United States is the only developed country in the world where tragedies like these happen so frequently. Our hearts go out to the victims of last night’s deadly attack, but now is not a moment when we can just send thoughts and prayers. Enough is enough. We must pass the Disarm Hate Act to keep guns out of the hands of people motivated by hatred and bigotry. We will not rest at Giffords until our leaders take comprehensive action to make our communities safer, in Colorado and all across our nation. - Gabby Giffords --------------------------------------------------------------- Giffords PAC works to end gun violence by empowering voters with information and supporting candidates who will fight for safer gun laws.
