Jason Kander has been a friend to the Giffords organization for a number of years. When he ran for Senate in Missouri in 2016, he showed that the issue of gun safety could be a potent one for Democrats even in what is considered a “red state” by many. What few knew during that race, however, was that Jason was battling PTSD after his service in Afghanistan. Shortly after that campaign, while heading toward a runaway victory in the Kansas City Mayor’s race, Jason was forced to drop out after being overtaken by depression and suicidal thoughts. Thankfully, he sought help. Jason wrote a book about it. It’s called “Invisible Storm.” It’s an account of his struggle and his courage to take it head-on. It’s a hopeful book.
