Congress knows this terrible fact. They also know how to keep our children safer. They know expanding background checks will work. They know safe storage laws work, too. But they refuse to act. Out of fear. Or more honestly, cowardice. We have been able to chip away at that fear over the years—pretty dramatically, in fact.
