Back to school season

As schools are reopening across the country for in-person learning, all anyone can talk about is the threat of COVID-19 spreading in schools. Don’t get us wrong — that is a very real threat and one that we need to take seriously. But many parents and students are worried about something else entirely: School shootings. It’s a horrible reality to think that schools being closed during the pandemic is the reason why our students have been safe from school shootings. But it’s true — and now we need to prepare for the fact that as students return to classrooms, we may also see a return to school shootings. That’s why we are redoubling our efforts to pass universal background checks so we can make our classrooms and communities safer by preventing these tragedies from ever taking place.
