We’ve made a lot of progress since that day, but we still have a lot of work to do. We’re confident our best days still lie ahead, and we’re thankful to have you with us. Check out Gabby’s email below and consider making a donation if you can. {NAME} - Today marks eight years since tragedy struck Sandy Hook Elementary School. For the families of Newtown, we know the pain will never go away. Most people remember where they were when they heard the news. You probably do, as well. That was the day we realized that our national response to tragedies like this needed to consist of more than thoughts and prayers. That was the day we decided to channel our sorrow and anger into courage and action. That was the day that we decided to devote ourselves to making our communities safer from gun violence. Days later, we launched the organization we now know as Giffords. I knew we would be successful. But I never anticipated how many millions of people would join the cause and transform our message of commonsense solutions into a national movement. And that movement has not only changed our country, but our Congress. We worked together to flip the House and then made history on February 27, 2019 when the House passed Universal Background Checks for the first time. But our progress was halted in the Senate. Mitch McConnell has let that bill sit on his desk while 100 Americans are killed with a gun every day. But we will not back down, our fight to reduce gun violence goes on, and we will never forget Sandy Hook. Passing that bill was important, but it was just the first step. We need the Senate to find the same courage to stand up to the gun lobby and act. Any progress we make after today will take the same kind of hard work.
